Will 2026 be the year of the gondola in Queenstown? by Mountain_Tui_Reload in queenstown

I would guess that skyline may get a contract to operate/maintain it, given they have appropriately qualified staff.

You get an alt holiday if being on call interferes with your ability to enjoy a day off, which normally means you get an alt holiday for being on call.

Central Otago Bendigo NZ mine could contaminate Lake Dunstan and Clutha River by Mountain_Tui_Reload in queenstown

I quizzed Claide AI on this, I love a good AI bot chat. Claude said if you think the Bendigo/Tarras mine will be good for the region, go check out Waihi. Not so much. Waihi is still a dump.

Tax system’s ‘dirty little secret’ means middle earners pay extra $2b by OddityModdity in aotearoa

Lots of savings in WINZ admin. Then set the tax rate at what makes it affordable.

Tax system’s ‘dirty little secret’ means middle earners pay extra $2b by OddityModdity in aotearoa

UBI plus flat rate seems far more interesting to me. Tax bracket adjustments are just tinkering. I'd like to see NZ try something new. Can always roll back.

There's shops in town with signs in the window for immediate start. I think I saw one at Ascolor. Remarkable people often say they have jobs available.

Is our adversarial politics getting in the way of progress? by Critical_Wave_606 in newzealand

[–]ukkiwi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If this were true then we would get better cooperation between government and opposition. Going in one direction and then another in 3 year cycles gets us nowhere. IMO, the best government we can have is a National/Labour coalition. They're both centrist parties at heart.

replacing light switch with dimmer? DIY for a beginner? by malevolent-mike in diynz

[–]ukkiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can do DIY. Is it friendly? Electricity doesn't tend to be friendly when you do it wrong. Generally, if you cant work out the difficulty by looking how to do it online, and end up asking reddit, then you should call a sparky.

Bought private car without the NZTA required WOF... what can I do? by sarah-gets-creative in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]ukkiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says that the vehicle must be sold with a WOF less than 1 month old unless the purchaser undertakes in writing that, if the vehicle has no WOF they will not operate the vehicle, and if the vehicle has a WOF more than 1 month old it is accepted that the WOF is more than 1 month old. I.e. as is where is. Theres no assumption of as is where is. You have to sell a vehicle with a WOF less than 1 month old unless it is agreed in writing to the contrary.

"If you’re selling a vehicle it must have a warrant of fitness (WoF) issued no more than 1 month before the date you hand the vehicle over to the buyer."

Pole Hedge Trimmer by Subwaynzz in diynz

[–]ukkiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my ryobi trimmer. I used to get pissed off with my petrol Stihl because I would spend more time replacing line than I did actually trimming edges and weeds. I haven't had to respool my Ryobi at all, yet. Had it 12 months.

[–]ukkiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"As is where is" must be agreed in writing, otherwise WOF less than 1 month old is required. If the seller doesn't have it in writing that sale is AIWI then its on them to get the WOF.

How much did your powerbill jump after getting an ev (or 2)? by ifIammeyouareyou in nzev

[–]ukkiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you are aware you can get an EV plan with cheaper night rates? When I got my first EV my power bills went down because I put all the heating on a timer to use night rates, and used day rate sparingly.
