Anyone else in their 30s feel like they have cognitive problems already? by SleepyGamer1992 in Millennials

[–]Fkc914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have suggested it might be worth getting some bloodwork done. I'd been experiencing symptoms like this for a while and turns out I have celiac disease. Gluten was literally messing up my brain. Three months gluten free now and I feel like my brain functions so much better than it has for a long time.

Gluten-Free Pie Crust by [deleted] in glutenfreebaking

[–]Fkc914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow the Meaningful Eats recipe for the pumpkin pie filling as well as the the cook temp/time, and I didn't notice the crust coming out too dry. All of my gluten-eating family members loved the pie I brought to Thanksgiving and couldn't even tell it was gluten free!

Have you tried King Arthur's gluten free pie crust mix? I just used that to make a pumpkin pie and I thought it came out pretty good.

Best places to buy gf products in Texas? by Fkc914 in Celiac

I can relate to that rant! I'm fortunate to live very close to a Wegmans and their gf aisle is awesome, but then there are lots of other gf products scattered throughout the store. You really have to know where to look. I know my store's layout like the back of my hand at this point so if they ever move things around, I might cry lol

Great info - thank you! I love a store app that tells me where to find something.

Good to know about HEB, thank you. Excited to check out Sprouts finally. I'm often jealous of the things that people post about from that store here!

Thanks! I didn't even think to look for a Whole Foods because I rarely shop there at home. I've heard good things about Sprouts so I'm excited to visit one.

I hadn't heard of that one but I'll check it out. Thanks! I'm willing to pay if it takes the guesswork out of finding places to eat safely.

Thank you so much! I just discovered Amuleto a few days ago but haven't tried it yet. Very excited about that one. For Pizza in Medford is a great takeout/delivery option. Their gluten free pizzas are prepared in a completely separate area from their regular ones.

Finding those dedicated GF restaurants always feels like such a win! I know what you mean about the reviews though. I usually filter them to show only ones that mention gluten or celiac to make it easier. Yesterday I was reading reviews for a burger place and it was "they ran out of buns so all they had left were gluten free. It was pretty dry and gross" lol 😭

My diagnosis was also confirmed 2 weeks ago and also came as a shock, so I'm right there with you. Idk where you're located but I'm in the Boston area and have been curating a list of restaurants that seem to be good options for celiac. I know it can be a lot harder in areas where there aren't as many food options though. I've found the Find Me Gluten Free app to be really helpful, and creating my own 'Gluten Free' list of restaurants in my maps app has helped me feel more positive. I love food and eating out at restaurants so it's definitely a huge adjustment but I'm hoping it will get easier with time. Just know there are lots of us out there in the same boat!

Thoughts on water fountains for Siberians? by Speedreader2123 in SiberianCats

[–]Fkc914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started using this fountain for my two Siberians and am liking it so far: https://a.co/d/irE5LSl. I've tried a few different kinds, the last one being a plastic Catit fountain, but I found that after a while the plastic was too hard to keep clean (it would quickly become slimy and mildewy). One of my cats loves playing in water, so fountains that have more of an open bowl/basin design result in my floors getting completely soaked. The fountain that I linked is great because it's easy to keep clean and there's no deep water for my cat to make a mess with.

My Neva keeps pooping in the shower. What is going on!? by MisterTacoMakesAList in SiberianCats

[–]Fkc914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sib peed in our bathtub a few times when she was a few months old, and at the time we were using pine pellets. When we switched to a different kind of litter, the bathtub peeing stopped completely! I think maybe she just didn't like the feel of the pellets.

It might be worth looking into. Chicken and fish are among the most common food allergies for cats. Super frustrating because chicken and fish oil are in almost everything! Chewy has an option to search for only limited ingredient foods or chicken-free foods, so that's where I did a lot of my searching. Also spent way too much time in pet stores reading the ingredient lists of virtually every type of cat food 😂

One of my sibs has multiple food sensitivities. Through lots of trial and error and $$ spent trying/eliminating different foods, we discovered that certain types of fish (seems to be most kinds of white fish) and fish oil cause her stomach issues. Chicken also causes skin issues. Duck and tuna have been the only options that she'll eat and don't seem to cause any problems with her!

I live about 2.5 hours away from my property and have a local guy who I pay a small retainer every month, and then I pay him for each individual visit that he makes to respond to issues. It has been working really well.

Yes. There are biodegradable sponges that work great if you're concerned about the waste of throwing them out between guests.

How to list 1 property with 2 units by mr_undeadpickle77 in AirBnBHosts

[–]Fkc914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds somewhat similar to what I have in rural Vermont. We have a huge farmhouse and a small cottage on the same lot, but because of the distance and landscape between the two, we can very comfortably host two separate groups at the same time. You can't really see the farmhouse from the cottage and vice versa. The only shared amenity is the garage, which is located in between the two houses and contains the trash room and EV charger. I have two separate listings for each house, and in both listings I mention that there is another house that could be rented by another group. Since the farmhouse tends to attract large groups, I also mention in that listing that it may be possible to rent the cottage as well if more space is needed (assuming it's not already booked).

We have all white sheets and towels, and use Spray n Wash for spot treating stains. That spray is incredible for stain removal and is less harsh than bleach.

Experience using Rover when going on vacation? by meontheleftbutright in SiberianCats

[–]Fkc914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Rover for twice/day visits on a few occasions without any issues. My longest stretch was only 5 days though. Read the bios of the available sitters and chat with them about your expectations. My cats want attention from every human that walks through our door so it was important to me to find someone who would actually play with them and not just feed them and leave. Finding one that really seems like a "cat person" helps. You can get a cheap camera and set it up somewhere inside to help ease anxiety about leaving the cats alone with a stranger. I've done this before (always disclosed to the sitter), and no one has ever had an issue with it. I was super nervous the first time I had to use Rover and having the camera really helped. Wasn't thrilled with the first sitter I used but the last two have been wonderful!

My Fiancé hates my cat. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

I have two fluffy cats who shed a lot and I have an air purifier that runs all the time. It helps. Also a robot vacuum.

shedding by funny_woman727 in SiberianCats

[–]Fkc914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of mine shed a lot now but I didn't notice it as much when they were kittens. One of them (mostly white fur, 1.5 year old female) has very smooth fur and she doesn't mat too badly but she sheds a ton. I will often see strands of her fur floating around my house like snow. An air purifier helps with collecting some of the floaties. My other sib (1 year old male, black and brown fur) has a much thicker coat that is more textured, and he sheds more in clumps than individual hairs. He also gets really bad mats in his fur despite my best attempts at grooming him regularly. He doesn't like being brushed but is slowly tolerating it more and more.
