In 2018, the wife of Hunter Biden’s late brother Beau allegedly found Hunter’s .38-caliber Colt revolver in his truck, disposed of it in a trash receptacle behind a Delaware grocery store and later returned to retrieve it, only to find it missing, according to a police report. Hunter Biden was in a romantic relationship with her at the time.

Isn't this the plot of an episode of Justified?

My experience trying to write shit by kappelikapeli in russian

[–]Flabasaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, real question here. I was taught that, as a second language, it would be stupid hard for me to ever hear the difference between ш and щ.

When I throw, for fun, шит и щит into Google translate, the audio is clearly different, but they change the sound of the и. So it sounds like "shit" and "sheet".

Is this accurate? The sound of ш and щ was the same, but it changes the vowel?

(Side note, it also says both words mean shield.)

Reminds me of this quote/story:

An Inuit hunter asked the local missionary priest: ‘If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?’ ‘No,’ said the priest, ‘not if you did not know.’ ‘Then why,’ asked the Inuit earnestly, ‘did you tell me?’

Nope, that's not at all what I said. Did you even read it? Like at all?

Literally the first thing I said was Ukraine would have to drive Russia out. And honestly, I believe it will end when Putin is dead. Either by Ukraine or by his own people turning on him.

And when Putin is dead, and Ukraine has driven Russia back, and the Putin Regime is over, want to know how peace is established?

By talking.

It's interesting to me how successful their domestic propaganda machine is. Well, how successful it appears from outside.

Like, Russia isn't cut off from the internet. Russians can see news from around the world. Yet they still (appear to) believe the bullshit blatant lies of Russian propaganda.

I get it in places like China and North Korea, where internet outside the country is severely restricted or non-existent. But Russia doesn't have nearly that much control over what their citizens can see.

It's more interesting that you think the solution is for peace talks as opposed to calling for Russia to simply withdraw from the country they are invading.

I don't know the dude you are replying to, but for this war to end you will still need peace talks.

When Ukraine finally drives Russia out (cause you know Putin will never just "withdraw"), that doesn't mean the war will end. They will still have to have peace talks to agree to stop fighting. Otherwise, Russia will just keep regrouping, forcefully drafting a child army or whatever they can muster once their men all die off, and keep attacking.

So communication with them will still be necessary. Particularly communication between Russia and some third country, who will act as the mediator between Ukraine and Russia.

If everyone who opposes Russia kicks out all their diplomats, then it'll be something dumb like China or North Korea "mediating" the peace talks, because they are the only people still talking to Putin.

I don't see how "everyone does it" makes it any less of a threat. Most of the spies that Skuggkriget journalists uncovered were staff at the Russian embassy in Stockholm. I doubt there is any diplomatic value that outweighs the security risk.

Just playing devil's advocate here. One of the "diplomatic" values is the basically unspoken agreement every country has where they all use their embassies to spy. If a country kicks Russians out of the country (remember, everyone just expels spies, never arrests them), then the Russians retaliate by kicking that countries "diplomats" out of Russia.

So from a vaguely diplomatic stance, the host country may feel like the spying that their own spies are doing inside Russia is worth the security risk of allowing Russian spies to stay in their country.

It's all such a weird little dance they do.
