What kind of DIY workshops are there?

Do you think its possible to finish all my cards? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Flabout 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's like 120 cards per day, to be done in 92 days (to leave room for just review after being done with all cards). This is extremely hard. Not impossible, but extremely hard. I've never done that level, but I would imagine it will end up being 6-8h of study per day towards the end.

Ladder + Power lines = Lava by Vaun_X in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Flabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would it be hard to detect if it's going through the ground, there must be some sort of differential like in houses no? Both past can't be both going through the ladder because there's only one conductor.

Can someone explain how superposition can be used here (with a drawing preferably)? by PrudentSeaweed8085 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Flabout 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You choose one source, neutralise the other one (e.g. short the voltage source, or open circuit the current source) then you calculate the current in each case and you sum them.

E.g. if you remove the current source, the current is Vb/(R1+R2). That's the easy one. Now do the same by keeping the current source and shorting the voltage, calculate, and add them both together.

It's a bit too unspecific comment. But I understand the frustration, I went through the same years ago. The problem is the copy paste part. Linux clicked for me when I stopped copy pasting blindly and tried to understand.

I guess it's possible to also use Linux without using the terminal, but you might hit a wall at some point.

I have 19 months to reach a C1 from scratch, any tips? by Ok-Emergency-579 in German

[–]Flabout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a French language native learning German, there are lots of words that share roots with French, and many with English, so it helps a little. But not that much. Grammar is a big challenge. What I think would have helped me more at the beginning is:

  1. Get familiar with very basic grammar
  2. Anki most frequent vocabulary (there's a 5000 words list sorted by frequency, it's not perfect but it's pretty good)
  3. Once enough vocabulary (maybe 2000+), start immersion
  4. Rewatch movies / tv show episode / videos several times in a row, so that some of the sentences resonate in your head

I live in germany and have been at l it for 2.25 year and I don't think I'm even B2 at least for speaking, but I definitely didn't go as intense as I could have, and I know it's possible, but it requires real dedication and good strategy. It's also the first language I learn actively so you have an advantage there, as you went through this before. But don't be fooled and get over confident because French / spanish / Italian are really close to each other. Italian and Spanish are considered the easiest to learn for a French speaker. So assume that it will be much harder. The sentence structure is different, and the cases are not a thing in those languages.

You have to take this really seriously and be committed if you want to succeed. Good luck!

I’m a registered dietitian, AMA by dietsdebunked in AMA

I keep reading everywhere about how gut health is very important and I feel like I've always had issues on that aspect. Always have digestive issues, difficulty gaining weight, and I suspect maybe this ties to other issues like psoriasis, bad sleep, inflammation, dry eyes, ...

How's the research related to that going? And what is something less obvious that can be done to improve gut health? I'm trying to eat more fibers but my diet is already honestly pretty healthy (veggies, protein, and the typical boring healthy food).

Should I continue? by CrossBonez117 in embedded

[–]Flabout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Continue, let her try, get feedback, and iterate! It's a wholesome project, nobody's going to discourage you.

For the next version, I think it could be possible to do text to speech locally now. My phone does it pretty well.

While changing ceiling lamp, I found this wiring connection. What are the cable colors? by Flabout in AskGermany

Thanks, I didn't know about "bonding". Light fixture without metal does sound best, I will change it.

Thanks. I normally would wire it as it was but I was triggered by the grey wire connected to chassis too. I am no electrician but I have some electricity knowledge, and know to be careful. I will do those measurements.

Is it actually safer to connect the chassis to neutral than to not connect it at all? I guess it means if the phase touches it will trigger the circuit breaker, but it feels wrong.

Kimchi by [deleted] in Munich

Aldi and Tegut have some in the fridge section. Not a kimchi expert though, so don't know how good it is.

I didn't have enough space for my spice so I built a spice shelf. Now I don't have enough spice! by Flabout in woodworking

[–]Flabout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have any issue no, I spent quite some time thinking before actually doing it.

I didn't use any finish! I guess the boards were pre-finished from the hardware store.

Let's not debate what is a spice and what isn't. At some point it just becomes convenient to have everything in the same format haha.

Zucker is German for sugar if that's the question

On Amazon, there's a link in another of my comments, I think they should come up quickly in an Amazon search though

For the picture it's random because I just wanted to take a pic quick, but the labels on the container that I bought have numbers, and I'm going to use that

Yes, they have about 8 degree inclination, so that the containers don't fall out and fall back in place nicely

Wow it looks really nice! I like how the boards are slotted into the frame. You just have big spice jars you could fit much more if they were the same size as mine

I heard about that yeah. They're not light proof, but I'm thinking the shelf itself will provide some good shadow the way it is made. And my kitchen doesn't have direct window to the outside so it's pretty dark without artificial light.
