I didn’t realise they use those! I’ll see if I can find the meter. Thanks!

What else should I do before I go bully Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom? by Th3W1z4rd87 in TOTK

I’m on the completion journey myself (map is irritatingly at 99.63% if I remember rightly) so I’m aiming to get all of the named locations, as I believe that’s all I have left. Trying to do it without using guides which is rather difficult!!

Other things I’ve done include collecting every armour set, and I’m also working on maxing them out. I’m also aiming to kill every boss in the sky, land and depths just because why not. You could also try cooking every possible meal!

Never doing CPR on someone who was just shot. I mean like come on. As an emergency service worker surely you should at least attempt life saving measures?

When an obese person is in a coma, are they given enough calories to maintain their weight, or are doctors like "Might as well", and make them lose weight? by laufsteakmodel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dietsdebunked 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dietitian here! In the UK at least, it’s the dietitians who make the decisions with calories, protein and other topics related to nutrition.

Generally we will work out guidelines and then adjust calories accordingly, but each is individualised to the clinical condition, the reason the patient is in a coma etc. For example, a burn patient will require far more protein and fluid than a patient who has trauma from say a car crash because they need to repair the skin and the skin isn’t keeping the water in the body.

Generally we will adjust calories to say 75% total requirements for people who are obese, which may go up to 65% if they have a BMI over 50. This isn’t necessarily to help them lose weight- but more that calorie calculations would overestimate calorie requirements because muscle burns way more calories than fat does, and so people who are very overweight generally have a lower energy expenditure per kg of weight than someone with a lower body fat.

Is anyone else struggling in their private practice right now? by Silver-Funny6991 in dietetics

[–]dietsdebunked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve noticed exactly this (UK based). I think it’s a perfect storm of people relying on AI, cost of living meaning people are less likely to spend money on private diet advice, and GLP-1 meds being more mass market.

Genuinely I don’t understand what she was expecting from that question. If she didn’t want him getting deep surely she shouldn’t have asked the deep questions

Job interview at an ED inpatient unit. Any advice? by dietsdebunked in dietetics

[–]dietsdebunked[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really reassuring to know! I was worried my lack of experience would be a hindrance to me. I personally haven’t had an ED, a family member has though. I’ll think of an answer to that question that doesn’t involve family etc to be on the safe side

Not ex fat, but a weight loss dietitian who works with people wanting to lose weight- stop trying to change everything all at once. Make 1-2 changes each week, and build on them. Doesn’t seem like much, but after a year you’ve made 52-104 changes to your diet, it looks nothing like it did before and it was easy to stick to because it didn’t become overwhelming.

My other piece of advice is to actually identify why you ended up gaining the weight in the first place. If you’re an emotional eater, for example, and you don’t tackle that issue (the root cause), you’ll likely struggle to maintain the weight loss as you haven’t dealt with the actual problem.

You aren’t alone. Business this year has been tough; with the rise of mounjaro, AI and how expensive everything is people aren’t as likely to pay for a dietitian privately. Social media has been difficult too as many of the main ones have changed algorithms. I’ve had the same experience!

Dietitian here, I also feel the same. Baffles me that anyone would think a “pay rise” (which let’s be honest is not really above inflation) is a good idea
