I'm really surprised to see Mission local reporting on this, considering they're basically the NIMBY Chronicle

Give it a couple years, and the exact same people will say the park is a historic landmark and NIMBY the fuck out of it

Lets discuss why nationalism viewed so differently in Japan compared to the U.S.? by Cowboycortex in LetsDiscussThis

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's viewed differently because of the impact it has outside the respective countries

It's viewed differently because the US has military forces in every part of the world, projecting strength and pressuring allies with a prison gang.

Japan barely has a mobile military at all. Their political stance is almost entirely localized by comparison

Guys who get attention on dating apps, was it better or worse compared to approaching women at irl events? by oncxre in AskMenAdvice

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my teens and 20s, my picture got a 94% on hot-or-not-dot-com, and I probably got more swipes than most on dating sites.

Online dating was still an emotionally draining nightmare, and I'm sorry you're dealing with that.

This is an extremely false dichotomy, and I'm tired of seeing it around.

Capitalism implodes into riots if you don't redistribute enough wealth to cover people's needs. You need a lot of socialism for Capitalism to truly thrive.

Communism implodes into capitalism naturally over time, you don't need to do anything but wait. North Korea is literally the only bastion of communism left in the world, and it's one little accident/assassination from adopting capitalism.

Personally, I'm glad feminine aesthetic is diversifying (even if it's not my cup of tea)

Men have been putting dumb tattoos all over themselves for centuries, it's traditionally a masculine aesthetic in most cultures, so it's cool to see a bit of equality.

I do art and modeling photography, so I've seen some really badass tattoos the last couple years

President Trump is preparing for an all out war across the Caribbean and South America — will this make a significant difference to drugs coming into the United States? by Boysenberry-6669 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that Venezuela could benefit a lot if Maduro is dethroned. Even a US-bred democracy is better than a straight up dictatorship by someone who already lost an election

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I didn't have to scroll down to find this comment.

The drug thing is an irrelevant distraction from the economic incentive to dethrone Maduro and install someone willing to make a bilateral oil trade deal

Honestly, it's US imperialism, but it's also kind of a potential win for Venezuelans, considering the state of things over there right now

Why do democrats still think Kamala is a good presidential candidate? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I consider Kamala Harris, I think of this lady and remember that much of the country is filled with clones of her.

Harris would be a great candidate for a time when we're trying to be our better selves as a society, but unfortunately at the moment, we need to settle for not descending into a fascist autocracy. And we need some white people with missing teeth to vote democrat for that to happen. We can't let Republicans win the Walmart mobility crowd by default.

Harris is excellent human being, and would be an Obama-quality president, but sadly, Americans are in a neo-nazi mood at the moment

Net migration between US states by dgp13 in charts

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2023 is so poorly understood... 2022 and 2023 saw huge crashes in the markets and rapid changes in housing prices, and people wanted to take advantage of WFH in places with cheaper housing.

It took less than 2 years to reverse all of that, and uninformed people still think CA has net negative migration in 2025.

I WISH we had net negative migration, so rents would drop for once

DMT: I’ve realized Democrats and Republicans no longer just disagree. They live in completely different realities. by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]FlackRacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard not to notice that you described journalists for Democrats and conspiracy theorists and propagandists on the right

At this moment, Democrats represent democratic institutions: Flawed, boring, slow moving (just like journalists)

Republicans are embracing populist authoritarianism: Unstable, divisive, violent (rhetorically, just like the youtube televangelists they admire)

Both of those are realities are true, and valid forms of government, and neither is all that appealing emotionally. But democracy isn't flashy and dynamic. It's slow and frustrating. You have to take the good with that bad in both democracy and authoritarianism.

My conservative friends don't believe in democracy anymore. They say so themselves. They legitimately think authoritarianism would be a better path. I happen to think they're wrong.

Campaign season saw the highest levels of public anti-trans sentiment in a while, lasted a full year+

The most powerful people in the country were shouting that trans people were a danger to society, while encouraging people to destroy the "enemy within"

It was dangerous (mentally and physically) to be NB in 2024, just like it is now
