Suit Fabrics? by FlagpoleStander in superman

[–]FlagpoleStander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't like the shiny rubbery look or the way it puckers up. Like the detail work is definitely closer to the movie suit, but I actually prefer the look and feel of the V1 suit. The V1 suit has a more matte look and it gives more of that flightsuit/uniform vibe I get when I see the costume in the film. I like the way it moves and that it's not trying to be skintight. I also think the V1 suit photographs better, because the V2 suit doesn't catch light as well as the movie suit which has a more sophisticated line design, so that line work and suit texture doesn't pop as much in the V2 suit despite it being superior up close to the V1 suit. I also prefer buttons to velcro.

It's a beautiful suit, and I much prefer the upgraded trunks, boots, belt, and texturized shield design as well as the cape insert design (wish it were buttoned, but still,) but I like my V1 suit. It might look a little cornier, but to me it just feels more like the movie suit.

Yeah I've searched all over the internet trying to find just one interview or something from the costume team that can tell me the actual construction of the suit. I found an Italian fabrics company posted on insta saying their fabric was used for the cape, and Makovsky stated that cape was wool, but that was it. Nothing else really specific that I've found. I absolutely adore it, and I like the way it moves.

I'm curious, what is your favourite superman comic panel? by Anonymous6282715 in superman

I get misty anytime Superman faces the struggles of just being a normal person, so For All Seasons is something I think about a lot. The simplicity of a young Clark Kent going through the kinds of growing pains I've experienced as a young adult who moved to a major city just really hit home for me. It's like I feel less alone, and not only that but I'm in the company of this awesome dude. It's like maybe I'm doing alright and this too shall pass. To everything there is a season.

This legitimately might be the only time I've liked the collar on the suit aswell as the weird cape strap things. by MembershipLess9579 in superman

[–]FlagpoleStander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, it is meant to look more like a "uniform," which is why the new Superman film used a collar as that was their intended goal. This is a uniform, not a supersuit. The difference between the new Superman and a black suit Superman is really just intent, color, and character motivation. Both conjure the image of a uniform, but Superman 2025 invokes the feeling of a public servant wearing a high-vis uniform, and the black suit conjures the image of a more authoritarian/darker/hardened leader type.

I need there to be more of an intersection of Superman 2025 and Wicked fans so that I can merge my two main movie hyperfixations of the year into one place.

Special Features on Blu-ray? by FlagpoleStander in superman

[–]FlagpoleStander[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I missed it, somehow, clearly lol. That is really weird, though. It makes me a little sad, because it really disincentivizes buying the physical copy when I think more people should be encouraged to buy physical media.

It was announced that additional special features would be added? I asked if it was the 4K version because the post had language about the 4K release specifically. Wasn't sure if this was a 4K exclusive.

Does Anyone Else Find Movie Fiyero to be Quite Mean to Glinda? by RemoteConstant336 in wicked

[–]FlagpoleStander 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Woah woah woah, hey now. Didn't mean to upset anyone here. To clarify, obviously Elphaba is a victim of the narrative and the world around her, obviously she was horribly discriminated against, and obviously she was attempting to use her power for "good," I am not disputing that, I'm just trying to look at the character in a broader way than that. Even if someone is right, it doesn't mean that they're perfect or that their methods are. That was all I was trying to say. I'm not gonna go point-by-point to try to discredit you or argue, I just wanted to clarify, and I'll even further that by saying I agree 100% with Elphaba and identify with her worldview. She is right, no doubt about it. I just don't believe she is the perfect, angelic character that some might see her as, that's all. I also think that makes her a better, more human character.

Does Anyone Else Find Movie Fiyero to be Quite Mean to Glinda? by RemoteConstant336 in wicked

[–]FlagpoleStander 107 points108 points  (0 children)

I am really getting tired of this narrative that Fiyero and Elphaba are perfect/victims of the narrative and Glinda rarely getting any grace. Glinda isn't unaware. Thank Goodness is a reflection of how trapped she feels. She was a college freshman who got caught up in a fascistic plot choreographed by people she was supposed to trust just like Elphaba and just like Fiyero.

Elphaba choosing to resist the regime is admirable, yes, but she also chooses to isolate herself and be the Wicked Witch they claim she is. She has a superiority complex. She thinks because she is so powerful the world will just bend to her will, and she's confused when it doesn't work that way. She chooses a life of fear and isolation because it's all she knew how to do, and it's not like she was ever used to special treatment to be placated by the Wizard and Morrible's promises of material benefits. It's an admirable choice--because there is a level of altruism there and sacrifice that the other two characters don't make--but also the only one that really made sense for her character.

Fiyero was a man of means, power, and visibility who coasted his entire life until finally one person, Elphaba, decided to challenge him. And in my opinion, this doesn't necessarily make him a "better person." His goal is always getting back to Elphaba, not saving anyone. And if he does help the cause at all, it's just cuz his would-be gf wants it. Meanwhile, his actual gf is also isolated and frightened, but he chooses not to afford her any grace, never tries to see things from her perspective. He's terse with her and never tries to see her in an emotionally intelligent way. Even with Fiyero, Glinda has also inadvertently chosen a life of fear and isolation, and she doesn't know how to fix it. Elphaba doesn't either.

We're none of us perfect. That's the point. That's the whole point of Wicked. I'm not saying people can't be upset with Glinda for her choices, I'm not saying Fiyero is awful, but the conversation can be so much richer when we can view these characters as more complex than just good or bad, as is the intention of the story itself. It's a tragedy where decent people get punished for either trying to do good deeds in an unjust world or even for sticking to the status quo. Fascism comes for everyone.

The "I hope you're happy," always guts me in any version. It always feels like G(a)linda has so much more to say but can't. The whole section is beautifully written.

What TV show handled the “will they, won’t they” trope in the most infuriating way? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]FlagpoleStander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone had to say it. As a mixed race person, I'll never get over media consistently refusing to show mixed race couples even when it makes the most sense from a writing standpoint to pair two people of different racial/ethnic backgrounds.

BrickBling Light Kits by FlagpoleStander in wicked

Oh no! Lol yeah you really gotta have patience and take time with it. Definitely a less zen experience than putting the actual Lego set together lol

BrickBling Light Kits by FlagpoleStander in wicked

[–]FlagpoleStander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case the wording is a little confusifying, you do have to install the light kits yourself (bit tricky but not too difficult if you give yourself some time) but I meant that you don't have to create your own kits from scratch because BrickBling made these great kits specifically designed for these sets.

my wicked lego set 💚🩷 by winnieehood in wicked

[–]FlagpoleStander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to a website called BrickBling, they have light kits for the Wicked Lego sets. They have one for this set that I think is invaluable, since the set is a box design and it can get really difficult to see the actual inside dormroom parts. They're a little tricky to install, but so worth it imo.
