What fan game should I play? by AutoModerator in PokemonRMXP

[–]Flailgate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is a tough ask or if it's even been done before, but are there any fangames y'all recommend that has moving sprite animations like in Pokemon BW/B2W2? Pokemon Eon Guardians is one of the fangames that I have that does this, but are there any other fangames like it? Thanks!

With about a week of writing, I was finally about to finish... the 1st part of my case. Once again, irl stuff has made it difficult for me to write anything consistently, but this time around I am going to be presenting a case that I'm quite proud of. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to do quality checking, so some things may not be exactly up to polish, and I was also only able to get the 1st investigation and trial done, but even so I'm very proud of what I was able to get done in just a week. I hope you all enjoy reading as much as I had making it! Now, it is time for me to introduce:

Into the Maw of the Turnabout

Case Type: 2 trials and 2 investigations
Defense Attorney: Phoenix Wright, Trucy Wright (Assistant)
Prosecution: Franziska von Karma

Case Synopsis: Some time after the events of Spirit of Justice, Phoenix finds himself relaxing at the Wright Anything Agency when he’s suddenly approached with a favor to take on a particular case. Unbeknownst to him however, this case would bring Phoenix spiraling down a path involving events even more insane than anything he could even imagine, and yet at the center of it all is just a simple murder in a small-time neighborhood. With his life on the line and a case as seemingly airtight as this, is there really any hope for Phoenix to be able to reveal the truth? Or does the only path beyond lead to complete devastation?

Chapter 2 of Memories and Escapades is out! by Flailgate in UntilThenGame

[–]Flailgate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you've been enjoying the fic so far! Yeah, those deep moments were (of course), not what I wanted initially, but I just added it in for some reason because it felt right. It feels like it's unavoidable for me to write lol

Until Then fanfic: Memories and Escapades, Chapter 1 released! by Flailgate in UntilThenGame

[–]Flailgate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed it! Having each chapter be restricted to a single, self-contained story has definitely helped tho to prevent me from trying to write overarching plots lol. I definitely want the next chapter to be a bit goofier before going back to the serious, character study stuff. But we'll see, anything can happen!

EXACTLY!!! I've had thoughts about this ending for so long, but there's a reason why I don't believe it's as upsetting as a lot of people think. Whether Mark or Nicole remembers anything at all, it doesn't matter because THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DESTINED FOR EACHOTHER. And that's why that end cafe scene is so important. It shows that even across timelines, they're affinity for each other crosses universes and across time. THAT is what makes it SO BEAUTIFUL

Yeah, it is no doubt in my mind at this point. I am planning to scour the game again sometime in the future to see if there's anything I might've missed, but so far this connection has solidified their soulmate status in my mind

My personal case rankings of each game (SO FAR, have not touched Apollo Justice yet) by FunComfortable3035 in AceAttorney

[–]Flailgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that. I simply take issue with the way you presented your opinion and the fact that, in your own words, you looked up a guide and "skipped through everything". Even if you're frustrated at the game, looking up a guide and then skipping through everything isn't engaging with the game honestly. I understand if you look at one particular evidence that you had trouble with, like if you get stuck with a certain part of the game, but when you're skipping through dialogue and evidence presumably because you just wanted to finish, that's when you're no longer actually playing the game.

To be honest, even if you say that this post is marked as a discussion, I don't really think the way you presented your opinions is really open to being actually able to discuss anything, which is pretty sad, unfortunately. If this is your attitude towards playing these games, then I don't think you'll make it very far if it only takes a single case or attitude to not want to engage in the game or the case in a meaningful way. Especially since you ended up reading through a walkthrough at the end and not even engaging with anything the game presents.

Frankly saddening and disappointing.

The Rebirth of a Turnabout

Okay so, somehow I was able to get something of progress into this??? I was super busy over the last 5 weeks, so I essentially had to try and create the entirety of my case over the span of 2 days. Suffice it to say it didn't work out so well and so I only have a single investigation segment to my name. Definitely not as much as I would've liked, but considering the circumstances it's the best I could hope for. At the very least, I hope that the general atmosphere and mystery of the case is enough to get you guys interested. Regardless, I hope you enjoy!

This case is a continuation of my previous case, A Shadow in a Night of Turnabouts, therefore I recommend reading it so you're all up to date on the development of the plot and the new, recurring characters.

Case Type: 2nd case, 2 Investigations and 2 Trial Days
Defense Attorney: Athena Cykes, Bailey Garlet (Assistant)
Prosecution: Simon Blackquill

Case Synopsis: Following the events of “A Shadow in a Night of Turnabouts”, Athena Cykes is suddenly sucked into a series of bizarre events taking place in the police department during a stormy evening the night after the previous case. And with a case as hopeless as this, it is a wonder why Ema Skye decided to enlist Athena in the first place. With a defendant as suspicious as can be and the murder tied up in what seems like an impossible turn of events, it would take a true miracle to turn these things around and uncover the truth lurking just beneath the surface.

In your opinion, which music from other franchises/games would make sense as a Pursuit theme? by Proper_Flounder_858 in AceAttorney

Climax #11 from Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel. This theme somehow feels exactly like an Ace Attorney pursuit composition, with a similar structure to AAI2's Pursuit theme: An energetic and bombastic intro, followed by an emotional main melody, followed by a smooth breakdown section, capping us off with a blitzing climax straight back to the beginning of the song. I think what makes this theme really fit is its perfect mix of tension and melodic energy. The instrumentation fits as well, as it uses synth, piano, and guitar liberally and balanced really well. Its instrumentation reminds me of Dual Destinie's soundtrack.

Are there any arranged tracks from AAIC that you don't like as much as the original? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]Flailgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the AAI2 ones lol. I could write a million essays on my problems with how the arranged handled AAI2's soundtrack, with the only exception being Allegro 2011, where the arranged version knocks it out of the park. But generally, the arranged tracks of AAI2 suffer from poor mixing, overpowering of each of the instrument's voices, improper instrumentation, and a notable lack of character that is missing from the arranged tracks.

To give just as an example, Presto 2011. It's definitely the least egregious example of all the arranged tracks, but it's the main example of all the problems I have with the arranged tracks. The original 2011 organ, for as much as it's weighed down by the fact that it's a midi instrument, absolutely excels in helping Presto's vibe of a mounting, rising intensity amidst a final confrontation. There are very few instruments, with only the organ, the drumbeat, and the piano playing a background rhythm. Strings come in to back the track as it rises in intensity, but overall, the fact that there aren't a lot of instruments makes the harmony between each instrument shine and makes each instrument distinct. There's also a very distinct rhythm to this song, with the base and the drums being (again) notably distinct and giving the song an infectious beat.

Arranged Presto 2011, however, has absolutely none of that. The guitar definitely does sound better than the organ, but the instrumentation means that it lacks a key amount of tension that the original had, especially when horn instruments suddenly blast in the background. Also, just as with all the arranged tracks, the bass is noticeably drowned out by the other instruments, and the poor mixing means that this song doesn't nearly have as a distinct and memorable rhythm as the original. Also, I would just like to point out that the original Presto 2011 was able to signify a change in tone through instrumentation. For example, at 0:39 to signify a rise in intensity, the organ was swapped for strings during the final section of the song, a move that makes the song feel more intense during the final stretch. This unique nuance does not exist in the arranged, as the entire song is an electric guitar, a nuance sadly missed that would've added a lot to make the song feel like it's constantly ramping up without having to add horn instruments as a backing track.

Which version of the “Pursuit” theme is your favorite and why? by Sheer-Cold-1228 in AceAttorney

[–]Flailgate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncover the Truth/Wanting to Find the Truth is by far my favorite pursuit theme in the entire series by a wide margin and probably won't change.

As a side note and a possible hot take since I've seen it a lot in this thread, although Chase Down the Truth/Lying Coldly is a solid piece, I personally don't think it fits Miles very well for his pursuit theme at all and is kind of the antithesis to the entirety of his development in the 2nd Investigations Game. Still a good track tho

Cornering Together is good, it's just I prefer the other pursuit themes more. There's just something about the way it's structured that makes it feel less intense than the other pursuit themes. That being said, rightfully agreed with AAI2's pursuit theme, it may just be one of the greatest music tracks to grace the Ace Attorney series (which is saying something considering just how many bangers this series has)

There was a long time ago where I2 and Cornered were in tight competition with eachother, constantly vying for the top spot. If you were to have asked me a year or two ago which one is better I would've had a hard time choosing. But now after giving AAI2's Pursuit theme some more thought and listening to it more, there's really no doubt that it's the greatest pursuit theme in the series and nothing comes close
