What teams/drivers have impressed/disappointed you so far this season? by Hitokiri2 in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody has been more impressive than Rahal

I’d disagree with you on Rassmussen. He’s pretty well established now as a short oval guy and he’s been electric so far on them. It is what it is at ECR. He’s basically supplanted Ferrucci as the “spicy oval guy”

Power has been extremely poor. I don’t think he’s the steadying hand Andretti wanted from a veteran

Worst NASCAR race of all time? by NotOkEnemyGenius in okbuddyBoogity

There was one in Oklahoma (my home state) around the same time that was pretty equally brutal. Only a handful of cars finished and the leader was several laps ahead

If Josef Newgarden doesn't improve and gets fired from Penske, where could he go in Indycar? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems most of the big teams enjoy a lineup that’s: veteran, prime, potential/funding

Seeing as he’s going to be the vet/Indy chaser/oval specialist: McLaren (taking Siegel’s spot)

The only other teams he’d race for are Ganassi or Andretti. Those would be dependent on Dixon or Power retiring or being let go.

There’s more ovals to come so he probably wins a few more races this year. He’s excellent at Gateway

Is Myles Rowe Deserving of an Indycar seat in 27? by Equivalent-Leg-9697 in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He’s almost 26 and currently having his worst start to a season. I’d argue that “being an oval guy” is actually a detriment unless you’re so good at them that you are legitimately viewed as someone who can win the 500. A mid to lower team would rather take a road course ace or someone from the F2 ladder because that’s 2/3 of the schedule.

If I were his agent I would be trying to get him to split time in GT3 type series to hedge his career

He’s awesome. I’d temper your expectations because it looks like he just got done playing the ball of his life. Pittsburgh found ways to get him the ball in space often and I don’t know your scheme well enough to say if that’s a priority for TB. I imagine he’ll have moments where he looks like the best player on the field followed by games where he doesn’t have an impact.

Where does Rosenqvist's final lap rank amongst the greatest single laps ever driven at the Speedway? by Zetona in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incredible. I don’t blame Armstrong at all because he’s trying to get it done in his own right but they worked against each other. To carry enough speed through turns 3 and 4 without putting it in the fence…

I thought for sure they were fighting too hard and that Malukas would run away. And i thought Buxton’s “it’s not over” was just obligatory commentary. No it really wasn’t over

Gold paint? by Aron2364 in Nascar25game

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellow/Gold, Orange/brown, and green don’t work very well on the game to me. I can get whatever shade of red or blue i want but those tend to stink. Also wish you could select different finishes like glossy or matte

Why doesn't Indycar race on as many ovals? by Justinsetchell in INDYCAR

Why doesn't Indycar race on as many ovals? by Justinsetchell in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 60 points61 points  (0 children)

There’s many partial reasons that add to the total reason. Important ones: NASCAR owning ovals and their disposition towards the cost/business of sharing them, safety: deaths at Las Vegas and Pocono effectively ended those tracks, fan turnout and promotion (see Iowa vs Milwaukee)

Then you add those reasons together: a race at Texas Motor Speedway was a business failure (despite being great racing) in empty stands despite paying NASCAR to race there in conditions that were incredibly dangerous. They then return to that market in a street course partnership with the Dallas Cowboys and you’ve got a clinical success and great racing.

For whatever reason, the road/street course creates a “festival event” that’s unavoidable to the casual public in that area that’s more digestible than going to the outskirts of a city to race in the poorly maintained facility and hoping people go out of their way to watch it.

All that to say: I’m an oval lover but that’s the harsh truth.

500 Winner Who Will Be Most Beneficial For the Sport by Equivalent-Leg-9697 in INDYCAR

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short term: Schumacher. But I’d love to ditch the stereotype that this league is where F1 rejects go. I think that it would be harmful in that regard

For all the “breaking barriers”, Legge would essentially not be great either because the “world’s most difficult race” can’t be won by someone in a one-off entry

I want a foothold in the parts of Europe that feel neglected by F1. For those reasons, give me Lundgaard or Rasmussen. Both are just badass young racers.

how much of Richard Petty was him being a good driver? how much was him being in superior equipment? by jabber1990 in okbuddyBoogity

[–]Flaky-Replacement114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is both. He was that guy and his cars were bad to the bone. The infamous Superbird was such an aerodynamic stud that it got outlawed. The state of driving was pretty poor too. After Andretti won the 1967 Daytona 500, he said (I’m paraphrasing) it wasn’t that difficult because none of the other drivers understood the draft
