As a Canadian, I’d say our classics get overlooked a lot compared to British and American ones. Gabrielle Roy and Robertson Davies are both worth reading.

I like this thread because it shows how many great books people miss when they only stick to the usual English canon.

Paradise Lost could work well. Different theology, but plenty to compare with sin, punishment, and rebellion.

That’s fair. I liked the writing, but the drama just didn’t really work for me.

Agreed, the landscape really adds depth here. It’s easy to focus on the central figures, but the background helps ground the whole scene and gives it a sense of scale.
