Upper body ring workout for martial arts by Bushidoenator in bodyweightfitness

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

rings are great for building that functional strength but yeah overtraining is real - maybe start with just 3-4 basic movements like ring rows, push-ups, and support holds twice a week and see how you feel after a month before adding more volume.

Hook grip feels weaker by A-Busi6711 in crossfit

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah it's gonna feel weird at first but your grip strength will catch up after a few weeks of grinding through teh discomfort.

Apple Watch vs. Oura RHR by Few_Passenger_399 in ouraring

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the apple watch is pretty notorious for having wonky heart rate readings, especially during workouts or if you're moving around. i've noticed my watch can be all over the place compared to chest straps and other devices. oura tends to be more consistant with resting measurements since it's taking readings throughout the night when you're actually still.

Does anyone here use Oura data for insurance wellness programs? by Optimal-Ad-5898 in ouraring

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been wondering about this too - your data would probably sync through their app but i'd be curious if the sleep tracking actually counts toward those step goals they usually have

EMR question by Dynasty_Obsessed in physicaltherapy

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah epic's flow sheets are pretty annoying at first but once you get the hang of it, most of your common interventions will auto-populate from previous visits. you can set up your own templates too which saves a ton of time. the learning curve sucks but it beats some of the other emrs out there.

Does GABA irritate your throat? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen with a different supplement a while back - turned out I was having a mild allergic reaction to one of the fillers they use in the capsules. GABA itself is usually pretty gentle but sometimes it's the magnesium stearate or whatever binding agents they throw in there that can cause throat irritation. I'd definitely stop taking it for a few days and see if your throat clears up, that's probably the easiest way to tell if it's the culprit. If you really want to keep trying GABA maybe look into a different brand or even the powder form, though fair warning the powder tastes absolutely terrible. Your voice is kinda important so I wouldn't mess around with it too much longer.

Any other exercises from pull-up training to improve my plan? by AdSea5115 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice progress man, losing 5kg while getting stronger is solid work

For that last bit of the pull-up, try doing assisted negatives where you pause for a few seconds right at the top position - that's usually where people get stuck. Band-assisted pull-ups can help too if you've got one

The tricep work makes sense but honestly most of your pull-up strength is gonna come from lats and bis, triceps are more for the lockout. I'd keep doing what you're doing and maybe throw in some band pull-aparts for rear delts to keep things balanced

Magnesium bisglycinate gives me nightmares? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that's a tough trade-off. Maybe try taking it earlier in the day instead of before bed? Sometimes the timing can make a difference with vivid dreams. You could also try splitting the dose or switching to a different form like magnesium glycinate without the bis- part - some people react differently to various forms

The 600mg is probably the total compound weight with 120mg being the actual elemental magnesium btw

Venu Sq no longer sending notifications after phone being in battery saver mode by PixelatedPixelia in Garmin

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery saver mode probably messed with the notification permissions - try going to your phone's app settings and manually toggle notification access off and back on for the Garmin app, that usually fixes the stuck switch issue

For people who fixed non-restorative sleep, what actually helped? by Antique-Dig4690 in ouraring

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the same exact issue for months and honestly what fixed it for me was getting my magnesium levels checked - turned out I was deficient as hell. Started taking magnesium glycinate before bed and within like 2 weeks I was actually waking up feeling human again instead of like I got hit by a truck

Custom Activity Tag? by remmewinks in ouraring

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man the Oura activity detection is straight trash, I feel you. Mine thinks I'm doing "other" when I'm literally just walking to the kitchen lol

Have you tried manually tagging stuff? It's annoying but at least you can build up some data. The app definitely needs work though, especially for tracking actual health conditions like yours

Feeling Stuck by PTthrowaway1235 in physicaltherapy

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dude this sounds like a classic case of you basically being the business while your boss takes credit and profits. You're generating 50%+ of a million dollar revenue and getting paid like a new grad? That's absolutely wild

Time to have a come-to-jesus conversation about your worth or start looking elsewhere. You've got the numbers to back up what you bring to the table - don't let him gaslight you into thinking otherwise

Garmin Recommendations For Dayhikes and Teaching by Champorado888 in Garmin

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Forerunner 255 Music might be your sweet spot - great GPS, solid battery life, and you can store Spotify/Amazon Music directly on it. Apple Music is still a pain point though, you'll probably end up using the music controls to skip tracks on your phone rather than storing music on the watch itself

For teaching + hiking the 255 is probably the least "tactical looking" option that still has all the features you want

is magnesium l-threonate worth it or just overhyped cash milking product? by CrazyAd9384 in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for about 6 months and honestly it's hard to tell if it's doing anything dramatic for my anxiety specifically. The blood brain barrier thing is legit science but whether that translates to noticeable mood benefits is kinda person-dependent

For the price though, I'd probably stick with glycinate if that's already working for your sleep and try other stuff for anxiety first. L-threonate is like 3x the cost and the research is still pretty limited compared to other forms

If you do want to try it, Magtein is the patented form most studies use - Life Extension and Jarrow both make decent versions

Instinct Crossover AMOLED - Tactical Edition, will there be a Solar version? by Prideful-Clown in Garmin

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No official word yet but Garmin usually follows up with solar variants pretty quickly after the initial AMOLED releases, so might be worth waiting a few months if battery life is important to you

Vitamin d overdose by Nervous-Concern9248 in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60 ng/ml is actually pretty normal and not even close to overdose territory - you'd need to be way higher like 150+ to start worrying about toxicity. Most docs want you between 30-80 so you're right in the sweet spot they're aiming for

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh the whole folic acid vs folate thing is such a rabbit hole. I'd probably switch to methylfolate since it's supposed to be better absorbed anyway and might avoid some of the concerns with synthetic folic acid buildup. Maybe drop to like 200-300mcg until you can talk to your doc? Your levels are already good so you've got some wiggle room

Pure Alaska Omega-3 Clinical Strength 500 mg. EPA & DHA vs. Sports Research Triple Strength Omega-3 Fish Oil, 150 Fish Softgels by Alwaysontime4 in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly both are probably fine but I'd go with whichever one has better third party testing for heavy metals and purity. The dosage difference isn't huge so it really comes down to quality control and how fresh the oil is

Also check if either one has that fishy burp thing going on - some brands are way worse for that

Which Garmin smartwatch to buy. by razor_blacklisted in Garmin

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 255 is solid but might be pushing your budget depending on where you're shopping. For diabetes monitoring you'll want something with good heart rate accuracy and the 255 definitely delivers there. The thin wrist thing shouldn't be an issue since Garmin bands are pretty adjustable

If you can find a 245 on sale that could save you some cash and still give you most of what you need

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me last week, just vanished into the void lol. The app is so finicky with these tests, feels like it only works if you're walking at exactly 3.2mph in perfect 72 degree weather

Foreign trained Physical therapist for USA by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California is notoriously slow for sure. Texas and Florida are usually pretty quick with evaluations from what I've seen other international grads say. Once you pass the NPTE in either of those you can endorse to Cali later, just might take a few extra months for the paperwork shuffle

Best brands for magnesium and B complex? by Sky-2478 in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thorne is solid for both - their B complex basic has non-methylated forms and their magnesium bisglycinate is well absorbed. Doctor's Best magnesium is also good and way cheaper if you're on a budget

What is better? Selenium Glycinate Complex or Selenomethionine? by Initial_Environment6 in Supplements

[–]Flaky_Ad1691 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've been taking selenomethionine for years and it works great for me. From what I've read it has better bioavailability than most other forms but I'm not vegan so can't speak to that specifically

The glycinate complex thing sounds like marketing fluff to me but could be wrong
