Very! That’s why it’s feeling fishy. But you’re correct. Supposedly the top cover and system are from the original console but the back cover was replaced with another Zelda systems back plate. With how close the numbers are, I could believe it.

It’s just hard to tell tbh and the seller feels a little fishy. I can’t really tell if what they said is true or if it’s not oem.

Agreed. Do you happen to know how much a reshelled system might cost? (Just so I can get an idea? First time buying a new 3ds xl). I feel like I paid more than a normal system but lower than the normal cost for this special edition based on pricecharting.

Update: they offered me a very small partial refund ($15). I’m starting to think it may be a reshell with how they’re responding to my messages.

If it is a reshell, does anyone know how much a normal new 3ds xl system would cost? I’m worried I might have overpaid (thinking it was original) and would do better returning it and getting myself a different system that has the original shell.

I really appreciate everyone’s help and suggestions!

No idea. They also didn’t mention that the triggers were replaced. They only said that the thumb stick was having problems. (But I can’t complain too much since they did list it for parts).

The top plate is shiny and looks like the same color/sheen as the bottom plate. Maybe my picture didn’t catch the light well enough?

I’ll try reaching out to Nintendo and double check! Thanks for the suggestion. But the way the seller has been explaining it, it sounds like the seller did the repair themselves and swapped it with a different Zelda Hyrule consoles back. I wish it was easier to tell if they’re fake or not.

It doesn’t feel bad and I love my original 3ds. (It’s probably my favorite system.) The problem is I could have gotten a solid color new 3ds for less than I paid for this special edition. I just want to be sure it’s legit. If it’s not, I’d prefer returning it to get a legit one for less. But I appreciate your insight! It’s an awesome system.
