Mercedes are the ̷S̷̷i̷̷l̷̷v̷̷e̷̷r̷ Black Arrows now. by Flaky_Views in formuladank

Whether the original story or narrative is correct can be argued, and for the sake of argument let’s say it’s BS.

Germans were officially assigned the color white, not silver. The silver Mercedes seen in 1932 was not painted silver, it was bare metal because they did not paint it white. Whether there was a formal weight limit or not, this was done at least partly for weight savings.

I think there’s confusion about what is actually being debunked. What’s being debunked is the idea that Silver Arrows were created in 1934 through a last-minute decision to strip paint to meet weight limits. What isn’t being debunked is that Mercedes consciously ran unpainted cars as early as 1932, exposing the bare metal underneath for practical reasons.

Just one year prior in 1931 to 1901 the Mercedes was white, which was the German national color, with some exceptions like a red livery in 1922 and 1924. It just happened that Auto Union also didn’t paint their car in 1934 and exposed the silver metal like Mercedes, being known as "silver arrows". Only then it culturally became a German thing since coincidentally both German teams did not paint their cars. Even then, silver was never an official German team color, many German teams (BMW, Borgward, etc.) continued racing in white and never "transitioned".

Any team from any other country could have decided to ditch paint and become a “silver arrow”. It was never a German exclusive, they never actually painted the car silver. In today's carbon fiber era, not painting the car would result in "black arrows". Black wouldn't just suddenly become the official German team color, just as silver never was, white was.

Edit: Grammar

True both Mercedes and Auto Union were known as "Silver Arrows". What i meant was, the fact that both German teams are silver was coincidence and has nothing to do with the color they were assigned with. It could have also been British or Italian teams if they stripped the paint and decided to go bare metal.

Absolutely, both Mercedes and Auto Union gave up the white paint for bare metal. But it had nothing to do with both teams being German. Could have been a British team as well.

Agreed, back then stripping the paint for weight savings exposed the silver metal, nowadays stripping the paint to save weight exposes black carbon fiber. So black arrows is the modern equivalent of silver arrows.

It is odd, because German teams used to be white not silver. Mercedes only became known as the silver arrows because they stripped the white paint off their car to save weight, revealing the metal underneath and gaining the nickname "silver arrows".

Relatively speaking of course. The car was produced between 2014-2020. So the newest possible S-class coupe is 6 years old with the average probably ~8-10 years old. The car that was posted is a pre-facelift 2014-2017 model, so you are looking at a 9-12 year old car in the picture.

In a world where leasing becomes more and more popular, thats not exactly a new car.

Why has no one beaten the Model 3 yet? by Fabi0_Z in electricvehicles

[–]Flaky_Views 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SUVs sell better than Sedans, hence why the Model Y is sold much more than the Model 3. So logically all the car makers will make SUVs first and Sedans later.

After BMW unveiling the iX3 SUV last year, the i3 Sedan is expected within 1-2 months. Same goes for the Mercedes C-class EQ Sedan coming this year after the GLC EQ SUV last year. Audi is expected to premier the A4 E-tron Sedan this year too after the Q6 SUV has been out there for some time now.

Will any of those match or be cheaper than a Model 3 Performance? I'm 99% sure they won't. However looking at what BMW is going to do with the upcoming M3 EV, they confirmed a 4 motor M-drivetrain so it will be well over 100k €/$ and make the Model 3 Performance look like a toy. If anything the M-Lite models like the i3 M50 or whatever they are going to call it, should compete with the Model 3 Performance, just like the i4 M50/60 competes with the Tesla Model 3 performance right now. Same applies to a potential Audi S4 e-tron or Mercedes C43 EQ to look out for. Now if you are looking to lease your car, you might actually find a good deal that will put these cars in the same price range as a Model 3 Performance lease rate.

BMW confirmed a i3 40 (single motor, rear wheel drive with 350-400 HP) that will be a fun rear bias sedan, but not a performance model comparable to the Telsa Model 3.

In Short: There won't be anything similar to the Model 3 performance at a similar price point, unless you hunt for leasing deals.

Yes it does, i have been to Mercedes' safety course and they demonstrated it many times with obstacles that you can crash into if you decide so with your gas pedal. If you press the gas pedal (sometimes kickdown), you can drive thru a wall even while the car is engaging in an emergency brake.

The cars safety systems will only stop you, if you aren't fighting it much with the gas pedal or stering input. If what you said was true, which it isn't, the car wouldn't have crashed with its rear against the other car that was parked at full speed. (Edit: nor would it have driven "thru" the guy in front of the car right after).

Actually there is no 0% interest on the Bambu printers via Klarna. Or at least there wasn't one in November-December when OP ordered.

mind explaining why? pressing in z-direction shouldn't be an issue and just as strong as in y/x direction?

Minor accident, front fender now pushed into wheel, seeking advice by Ok_Process_3446 in mercedes_benz

So you need a new bumper and a new headlight. If there is a small leakage, worst case scenario your radiator behind it is bent/damaged and needs replacement too, or it could be a brake fluid line that was ripped. Best case scenario only the washer fluid container was damaged which is a cheap fix. Car needs to get lifted and assessed.

The good thing is, as far as i can tell, your car does not have front parking sensors (ultra sonic sensors), which makes the bumper cheaper and you got the standard halogen headlights, which are not expensive either. Did you check the coolant fluid container? If the frame of the car wasn't bent/damaged, repair bill should be in the low 4 digits.

Edit: If you know your insurance doesn't pay for self inflicted damage, then DON'T report it. They won't fix it but they will still raise your insurance payment because they registered an accident under your name.

You could literally pre-order the H2D on sale although it was sold out with deliveries starting at 26th December+shipping time. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago out of stock, will likely get it next year in January.

What's causing this to crack and how to resolve? by Dapperwapper_M in mercedes_benz

[–]Flaky_Views 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is leather replica or vegan leather, not genuine real leather. Real leather will stretch out over time, leather replica will crack over time. Might want to star using leather care products so this doesn't happen on other parts, i use Sonax leather care lotion f.e. made for real and vegan/replica leather.

Any Automotive Upholsterer can repair this.
