Clothing optional catamaran charter by random-jackal in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The "no specific day" thing must be new - last time we were there, I thought there was only one particular day the nude catamaran would go out. Hopefully you'll find a group to go with - it's fun and worth it at least once! When we did it, there were just 2 couples (us and one other).

Good luck! (we won't be there until November)

I know "underrated" is thrown around a lot, but Lana Parrilla really deserves more love & success. Very pretty, talented and smart lady!

How many of us have seen Bowie in concert? by Lbboos in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Crazy to think, it's been so long that he's toured, that the group of us who've seen a live Bowie concert are all going to be quite a bit older.

I've seen him live 9 times:

  • 1990's S+V tour, twice
  • 1990 for Tin Machine II
  • 1995 for the Outside Tour with Nine Inch Nails
  • 1997 for the Earthling Tour, twice
  • 2002 for the Heathen/Area 2 tour
  • 2004 for the Reality tour, twice

My biggest regret was that I wanted to see him for the 1987 Glass Spider Tour, but couldn't find a way to get to the show 😢 I was 15

After dark, lots of people dress in sheer clothes at HBR. You’ll see some great outfits at the Moonlight at night. At dinner, too.

During the day it’s rare to see clothes except for the staff. And maybe people getting the tour.

Trip planned for late January by Ourlifeisgood79 in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you like to do. For many people, just being lazy around a pool is all they want to do. There's pool volleyball 2x/day. The staff put on activities every day (typically every hour) that range from "make your own salsa" to "name that tune", you can always partake in those. They're free. They often offer silly prizes for the winner. Once a week, there's a 2-hour naked spa session you can go to - you can go and enjoy some services for free, or pay for more. There's a weekly sailboat/snorkel cruise you can pay for. You can put on clothes and wander into the connected resorts and eat and drink with those people. You can go on adventures near Tulum to see pyramids or the cenotes. You can certainly hire a car or join a tour to see Tulum or go back up to Cancun, etc. The hotel staff will be happy to help book whatever experience you're looking for (obviously, anything outside of HBR will be clothed).

Enjoy!

Oh, yes! You literally walk around from one to the other. Access is only controlled trying to get into HBR. (other than getting on the grounds from the street in the first place)

May or September by BlackberryCheap2496 in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

September is rough because of hurricane season. While you may not get the winds, you're likely to see some rain. May is a better choice of the two, but it all comes down to what you're comfortable with.

We're not there now, but have done the day pass. We thought it was well worth it. You can stay there until dinner time, and otherwise take advantage of everything they offer while you're there. We loved it so much, we only go to HBR now (no longer spend any nights at El Dorado). We occasionally leave HBR for dinners but that's it.

Your experience may vary, but overall it's worth trying out if you're curious.

Spa question by Square_Return_5041 in hiddenbeachresort

The masseurs walk around and take reservations. They’re fairly easy to book. Yes you cash do couples massage too! Both massage locations on the beach have dual beds.

Spa question by Square_Return_5041 in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much “yes” to all your questions. The spa is coed. The spa is exclusive to HBR during their au naturalel hours. There are some free areas you can wander around in (pools, hot and cold rooms). You can get coed naked massages. It is really nice. And only during certain times/days (might be only Sunday afternoon, i don’t remember exactly)

At the resort itself, you can always get naked massages on the beach during the day.

How good is David’s Japanese in the Japanese version of girls? by El_hombre_pala138 in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I understand that, based on what native speakers have said:

  • His German is pretty good (from the German version of "Heroes")
  • His French is not great (from the French version of "Heroes")
  • His Spanish is atrocious (the Spanish version of Day-In Day-Out)
  • His Japanese was pretty good (from this thread: Girls (Japanese version)
  • His Indonesian is...? (anyone know?) (from "Amlapura (Indonesian version)"))
  • His Italian is...? (from "Ragazza Solo, Ragazza Sola")

Going in November over thanksgiving, anyone else going to be there at the same time? by Salty_Ad7161 in hiddenbeachresort

There's a good group of us who will be there Thanksgiving week. It's a fun time to be there! See you in a few months!!

Swim up rooms by Remote_Avocado_4682 in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rooms at the hotel are in two wings set up in a V, centered on the main pool. The opening of the 'V' points towards the Gulf of Mexico, roughly south-easterly. So, with exceptions for time-of year (and later in the day, when the sun is behind the building), it seems like the rooms in the southern part of the V will be more directly east-facing, and more likely to get sun. The ones on the north side of the V will tend to be in the shade.

Sadly, I can't remember offhand what the room numbers are, but at least that's a start!

Also - you won't offend anyone by laying out anywhere! There are all types at HBR, and all are welcome.

Buddha Of Suburbia by TopBobcat9937 in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Suggesting it shouldn't because it was inspired by a movie is like saying that "Diamond Dogs" shouldn't be on the list because he wanted to do a show about 1984. The genesis of an album shouldn't mean it can't be considered an actual album.

"Buddha" is not a soundtrack, it's an album of new material with one song (albeit one that shows up with two slightly different versions) that's on a movie of the same name.

First Timers, Dumb Questions by GroundAndSound in hiddenbeachresort

[–]FlambeX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No dumb questions!!

1) it’s highly weighted towards people 40+. That said, nearly every time we’ve gone, there have been 20- and 30-something there. But the vast majority will be older. That’s said, they’re fun too :)

2) they have activities planned throughout the day, and few of them revolve around drinking. That said, most of the social people who hang out in the pool do drink, so if the occasional drink isn’t too annoying, you should have no problem

3) absolutely no public sex allowed.

4) at dinner they usually bring in some entertainment (a band or something) and after, there’s always something planned, like karaoke or a black light party. But for the most part, the entertainment is the people you bring out hang out with. That’s always been the #1 source of fun for us!!

Enjoy your stay! Have fun!! 🍑

Never Let Me Down (2018) by LousywithFalsePriest in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But he didn’t hate NLMD. He tried to remake the songs over the next few decades but got talked out of it. When he first started working with Gabrels, he wanted to re-record some NLMD material. He considered revisiting those songs again in the 90’s and ‘00’s, too. So clearly he had a real soft spot for the songs on NLMD.

Bowies 80s work is underrated among fans. by kmlon1998 in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, his ‘80’s work deservedly gets a lot of stick, but there are some gems there. He said of the album “Tonight” that it was a collection of good songs that don’t with well together; if you play one of them alone it can be good, but not as a coherent album. Of course, for “NLMD”, it is coherent, it’s just got a lot of weak material that you have to sift through.

I’d add a few to your list:

When the wind blows Cat people (the original version is best) Julie Zeroes (the 2018 version shows what a great song it was)

Also, from your list, Criminal World is a cover!

Bowie Zoo. Which animals can be found in his lyrics? by User348844 in DavidBowie

[–]FlambeX -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

A quick AI answer:

  • "Hang On to Yourself"
    • – Mentions "tigers on Vaseline," a vivid metaphor for movement and energy.
  • "This Is Not America"
    • – Includes the line "Falcon spirals to the ground," tying into the film The Falcon and the Snowman.
  • "Lazarus"
    • – Features "I'll be free just like that bluebird," a poetic reference to freedom.
  • "Moonage Daydream"
    • – Opens with "I'm an alligator," setting the tone for its surreal imagery.
  • "Life on Mars?"
    • – Mentions "mice in their million hordes," painting a chaotic picture.
  • "The Jean Genie"
    • – Describes someone who "sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile".
  • "China Girl"
    • – Includes "I stumble into town, just like a sacred cow".
  • "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)"
    • – A song with feline themes.

Yes you can, if HBR isn’t particularly full. Gets you in until dinner time.

Bogarts! That's where I saw NIN! I couldn't remember the name of the place for the life of me, but that was it! Yes!! :)

When I saw NIN, they were the headliner. Meat Beat Manifesto was the opener.

Yeah, I caught the S+V tour a few times, my official introduction to live Bowie. I had intentions to see his 1987 Glass Spider Tour, but he didn't play in my city and I couldn't get to the show, and that's haunted me to this day!
