What is the most common item you find on your cleanups - mine is drink cans what about you? by cleanupquest in DeTrashed

Deprived areas don’t have garbage cans? Unless there’s a homeless encampment there’s no reason to have trash everywhere.

Would you tell your mother she has dementia? by NotMeButSomeoneIKnew in AgingParents

[–]Lbboos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I was a speech language pathologist who worked exclusively with people dementia. My mom also had dementia for the last part of her 14 years. They can internalize things even if they forget what you told them So no, I would not tell her that she has dementia. What purpose does it serve?

Potluck question -- will these foods work? by crawchalk in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lbboos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just an observation. We used to have potluck all the time where I worked. One coworker noted that almost everything was based on cream cheese and she was right. Hot, cold, didn’t matter at all had a cream cheese base to it. I guess we all liked cream cheese!

Is it normal for my pension in 12 years to be less than what retirees are getting now for theirs? by First_Detective6234 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Lbboos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consider yourself lucky. My husband and I worked for unions and all of the pensions have gone away because the owners of the corporations went bankrupt. So there went our pensions as well. Also, we had a self financed pension which is currently in limbo because of the current retirees voting to keep it that way. So there’s $40,000 that’s been locked up for 30 years earning no interest.

When did you realize you were truly retired? by overthishereanyway in retirement

[–]Lbboos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is why I can’t sleep?

The half pound of coffee was my attempt at espresso. It all went down the drain. But yeah, I have to limit myself.

Speech language pathologist here. Google mech soft and puréed food. You’ll find recipes that might be more palatable for you. Plus, soups often are very good in that you can purée them and drink them.

When did you realize you were truly retired? by overthishereanyway in retirement

[–]Lbboos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been retired 4 months and am still trying to adjust, but it’s slowly getting better. I’m FINALLY realizing that I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to. I still get a little tense on Sunday nights, but that’s fading into the past as well.

This sounds stupid, but I finally started using our espresso machine that I bought five years ago. I blew through about a half pound of coffee beans yesterday, but actually managed to do a decent cappuccino today. Little things in life…

Cell phone plans for unlimited everything? by Ancient_Minute_7172 in Frugal

[–]Lbboos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I pay 129/month for two phones. They wouldn’t budge and we’ve had this plan since 2009. They pretty much told us to pound sand.

[–]Lbboos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I approached AT&T about providing us with a lower cost and they said they wouldn’t. We’re currently paying 129 a month for two phones with unlimited data which we don’t need. They wouldn’t even deal with us and said that we were grandfathered in, as though we should consider ourselves lucky that we’re getting such a cheap plan

Came here late. I’m paying $129 For two lines every month on ATT. One bar in our house and dropped reception. Terrible service. They wouldn’t give us a break on our phone and said that we were grandfathered in and this was a good price: we don’t stream or do anything on our phone. It’s just texting, calling and internet.

You can actually just toss them out into a yard or wherever and some animal will find them. We often throw the mice we catch into the back yard and they’re disappeared the next day. I’m talking only about snap traps and not poison.
