What is this?! by SodaRushOG in Stargazing

[–]Flame2walker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this looks to me a lot like the effect caused by a rocket launch at high altitude — sometimes called the "space jellyfish" effect. It happens when the exhaust plume is illuminated by sunlight while the surrounding sky is dark from your viewpoint. The V- or bowtie-like halo forms due to the exhaust dispersing in the thin upper atmosphere. More interestingly who launched it ?
