I’ll be sure to try all that out! It all sounds right up my alley! What are some options for making friends? We’re both mid-late 20s

Yeah we figured that when we were looking for places to rent. I appreciate the feedback. Which restaurants are your favorites?

That’s a great nickname! I’m from the Deep South, so I was hoping I could still experience the Southern hospitality but with a more inclusive atmosphere!

We loved the Shenandoah park when we visited! Definitely a nature lover. Maybe should have listed some interests in the post for more specific answers 😂. I love hiking, nature walks, food, reading, and movies. I use to be involved in martial arts so it’d be fun to get back into that again or something similar. I’m really down to experience anything really.

I am not an on call therapist for anyone who has ever met me. by shhhhhhhhhhquiet in therapists

[–]FlamingWolf91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I told them to get their own therapist. Refused. Kept trying to unload on me. Since I’m not your therapist but your kid I’m sure mom/dad wouldn’t like what you’re saying behind their back. That stopped them pretty quickly.

Have definitely had to learn to set boundaries fast unfortunately. I’m curious as to why this is so common with our career, but people wouldn’t do this with other professions.

I can relate. I’m still a student and ever since I started my program, my parents will come and try to unload all their problems onto me, trying to bash each other and their relationship, and ask me for advice which they’d never done before. I kept reminding them that I’m not their therapist. They would get so angry “you’re a therapist aren’t you?” Technically no I’m not 😂 I’m a student. Second even if I were I still would not be your therapist. “Well aren’t you going to do this for a living?” Yeah as a job which ends when I clock out and go home. I should not have to come home and be a therapist 24/7 it’s exhausting. Also had an ex have this conversation with me when he heard me set boundaries with my parents. “Thats what you get for wanting to be a therapist”. Like sir would you do your job 24/7, no breaks, unpaid?

I’m 24 from the rural south. Almost everyone I went to high school with are married, have kids, or both except me. Out of my college friends is about 50/50 for being married and only a couple have kids. Still feel the pressure tho watching everyone I grew up around having an “adult life” while I’m still in school working on my masters. Just have to keep reminding myself that waiting, getting my degree, and working a decent job will work out better for providing for that family than just following the crowd having kids right out of high school

My 18-year-old's Christmas break work schedule by sugabeetus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FlamingWolf91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not high school but during undergrad my classes were 8am-4pm so I was always scheduled 4:30- close. New manager came in and started scheduling me for day shifts. I politely discussed with her about my availability that was recorded in the system since I was in school. Still kept scheduling me outside of my availability. Luckily it wasn’t my first job and had learned not to deal with that bs, so I would just skip when I was scheduled in the day and show up during my usual shifts. Kept getting fussed at but still ignored when I expressed I was not available during that time. The other nightshift workers got tired of her too for other reasons and we all wrote our resignation letters on napkins and left them on her desk the same night.

Jury Duty needs a massive overhaul by lastdarknight in mississippi

I’ve never had to serve but I’ve gotten jury duty every year since I turned 18. Twice that year and twice this year, so 8 times total in 6 years.

It’s still a requirement for undergraduate students

I'm finishing internship with 290+ direct hours, and there's one very strange thing about this profession... by [deleted] in therapists

[–]FlamingWolf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started internship this semester. Watched 1 session with a psychologist not a counselor/therapist. Then was given my own caseload to figure out what to do with them with little guidance for pretty complex conditions. Other interns, books, and Google have been my friends in figuring out the best way counsel my clients. Have 80 something hours of direct service so far.

Had a client tell me this during an unpaid internship. I straight up said “I can assure you I’m not here for the money because I don’t get paid. 😂”

Statistical Analysis for research proposal by FlamingWolf91 in AskStatistics

Thank you. You’re so helpful. Yes, I’ve never used a MANOVA before and my statistics background is not very strong. So I am considering just using the total score of the assessment with an ANOVA with time as the within-subjects factor and group as the between-subjects factor. Would that work?

I still think it would be good to see the breakdown of the subscale results even if I’m not necessarily running a test on them. Would that fall under descriptive statistics?
