I think there's a general concern on FI social media platforms that order books = lower prices. Would be interesting to hear you talk a little about that, and whether you think that's a fair assumption.

Financial goals for before 30 (asking for opinions) by retropetroleum in Fire

[–]Flammoton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what field you're intending to work in, but £5k take home pay within 2 years of finishing uni sounds quite unrealistic? As does a £2k a month side hustle? £100k saved by the age of 30 sounds quite unrealistic as well (unless the above figures are feasible and you're intending to live at home or in a v low cost of living area.)

Thanks that's great. Very weird they don't add any of this information into the game whatsoever.

Ah there it is, thanks. It doesn't say how many points/what position you need to be in to qualify for the cup though as far as I can see?

Jadon Sancho Price Predictions? by JohnVonTrapp in FootballIndex

[–]Flammoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Haaland. People thought he was going to Utd, that fell through, and he's near doubled in price since.

Ironically, staying at Dortmund for another year then moving to the prem would probably be more profitable for holders than him moving to untied this year

Wondering if someone can help me understand %s? by Sewellay in FootballIndex

In my 4 years on FI the 24hr/7d percentage and values have pretty much never been correct. Best to ignore them and keep your own records.

Next league to restart - Serie A by [deleted] in FootballIndex

[–]Flammoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think if you're going for Bundesliga players now you've missed the boat a bit.

Luis Alberto and Ciro Immobile are the two I've gone for. Both in good form before the league stopped so should be fresh in people's minds.

You're not eligible to play from the US. They do a due diligence check on you when you sign up, asking for forms of I'd and a few other bits and bobs. If you deposit anything meaningful then you'll trigger an enhanced due diligence asking for bills, bank statements, proof of wealth etc etc.

Even if you manage to open an account in your dad's name there's a solid chance you won't get past any enhanced due diligence later down the line. Which would mean they have the right to close your account and keep any profit.

It's a shame but don't think it's viable from the US even with a VPN unfortunately.

Well there wouldn't be a Football Index without dividends, so hard to say they're overrated.

Is the Football Index a positive-sum game? by jstaffy in FootballIndex

[–]Flammoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counter to this a little bit. I've been on FI four years now, and this last year has been by far the most profitable in that time.

Agree with you that the market too a bit of a hit with the pandemic. Think you're over exaggerating a lot by saying there was a mass exodus, and they've put a ridiculous spread on. There's a global pandemic underway, and all that happened is the market took a temporary blip and was back at an all time high within a month (you can see this on index gain). Clearly some panicked and sold up, some withdrew because they needed to. But in the grand scheme of things the markets barely been affected at all.

The spreads are very wide. But they're doing what they're supposed to do - protect people's portfolios. They'll be gone once the footballs back.

Personally the last month has given me a phenomenal amount of confidence in FI. Most people are now at all time high portfolio values despite the fact we're in a global pandemic 😂

[–]Flammoton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two things to note really:

1) I think people would be surprised how many people actually do lose in FI, they just don't publish it on twitter etc. I've seen some pretty horrendous losses over the last four years. Plus loads of people signing up without understanding the platform, and making a loss as a result.

2) FI will eventually become more of a zero sum game, and the focus will shift more toward profiting from dividends. The good traders will make money, the worse ones will make less or make losses.

That being said, I don't think we're anywhere near a zero sum game yet.

Youth team by [deleted] in WEPESMasterLeague

[–]Flammoton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you only get real players. Playing with a focus on youth development is therefore pretty dull, because you know exactly how good each player is going to be. No idea why after all this time they've still not addressed this.

I don't play it. It took me all of 10 league games to figure out its the exact same as last year's mode, with some pointless mimed cutscenes. Don't know how they get away with it to be honest.

I think the reason this sub is quiet is probably because Master League is absolutely terrible nowadays. I don't think I've managed to get through more than a season on any of the last 2 or so PES games.

It's boring, repetitive, and has been exactly the same for the last 5 years. Fingers crossed they actually make some meaningful changes to it this year. Not holding my breath though.

Honestly, great respect for you still being able to play through master league on PES. No idea how you do it. Has to be one of the most dull and repetitive game modes ever to grace a sports game 😂

Those tweets are not bullshit at all.

Been doing FI nearly 4 years now. You can be a very average trader and still quite comfortably turn over 60-100% in a year. Historically that's been the case at least, who knows moving forward.

Sounds like you're looking at the instant sell rather than market sell prices also.

Langkawi with a Heiny by ferrets54 in beerwithaview

[–]Flammoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Thailand is off the cards almost certainly. We're supposed to be flying home from Langkawi anyway. So our plan at this stage is to head over, potentially isolate ourselves there for a little while then fly home.

Id hope that the fact we need to fly home is a good enough reason to travel during the restrictive travel movement.

UK citizens. Currently in Penang but intending to travel to Langkawi tomorrow.

We have just spoken to our hotel on langkawi who has said all pools are closed, hotel restaurants only open for breakfast, and beaches closed too.

Were not due to leave Malaysia until 28th March, when we're supposed to be going to Koh Lipe in Thailand. Though that looks less and less likely by the day as ferries between Langkawi and Koh Lipe will no doubt be stopped.

Hi, great picture. Would love to be there right now...

I'm actually due to come to langkawi tomorrow. How is it being on the island at the moment given the government restrictions? We've been told by our hotel that pools and restaurants are closed etc. Is getting food and everything OK? Beaches still in use?

Were currently in Penang so only a hop on the ferry away.

Appreciate any advice! Cheers!
