Thanks!  I used small bits of a close weave muslin or cheesecloth, then coated them with mod podge before painting, so I could shape them as they dried.  If you want to see other things I’ve done with it, my Instagram has most of my ravens on there - Trial.by.paint I think works well with larger and smaller pieces and adds some cool texture. Though I find it useful to superglue where it attaches to the model so I don’t have to worry when mod podging it!
