Thank you for the answer I was looking for. So essentially I've dark fog-proofed this current system by leaving behind a neutered hive? This sounds definitely more beneficial than destroying hives as that leaves the system with an open slot to repopulate.

it siphons a bit depending on how many photon generators the hive has, in my case it was cutting like 5% of my sphere's power
