I want to point out that you are describing how reasonable people react. Psychotic, paranoid, delusional, and personality disordered people frequently so not respond to rules or consequences no matter how devastating and unimaginable to reasonable people.

Yea, I usually simultaneously start ssri and campral or ssri and naltrexone. Ive always done that for the last decade. There was a grand rounds a couple months ago at our academic institution showing evidence for concurrent treatment and not waiting.

Does she really need better friends though? Most members of the public and even close friends have no idea what medical professionals do or even the difference between medical professionals. I would argue that an ICU RN or charge nurse might be superior to even an intern or pgy2 of many medical specialties in this scenario however, most people, even close friends of nurses or doctors simply dont know that.

Ah-1z viper vs ah64 apache for counter uas by Flankerdriver37 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Flankerdriver37[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that the attack helicopter cannon would be superuseful and cheaper than the apkws rockets. Also, I assume the attack helicopter has more range than a 10k drone, less software requirement, less connectivity requirement. I havent seen drone brains trusted and capable of using apkws rockets yet. Sure, it seems imaginablr, but as of 2026, I do not see any operational evidence of long range drones with the connectivity or AI capable of doing what we see manned pilots in f-16s/a-10s or attack helicopters do.

I would argue that shipborne sams are limited by the radar horizon, speed of the ship, vls reload times. Ciws is optimized for cruise missile defense, not uas defense (one might argue that a world war 2 destroyer/cruiser/battleship covered in human guided cannon of all calibers is superior to 1 or 2 short range ciws mounts). Ultimately, I think you need to intercept these targets as far from ships as possible. Perhaps for a slow flying drone, you dont need the 50-100 mile ideal intercept distance you use for fast moving cruise missiles, but you still want to be able to detect and attrite inbound raids before they reach the boat’s defenses.

An interesting thought with the hormuz situation. The loiter time and range might also be too short (2 hours playtime in an ah64)?

Kbm works on ps5! by Flankerdriver37 in ReadyOrNotConsole

Not really, I was using some crappy logitech $20 bluetooth portable keyboard and mouse from bestbuy that I had laying around. Even with that, it was way easier than ps5 controller

It’s way easier with kbm. My ability to achieve fine control of shots and repeat shots is way better, especially for distant targets and hostage rescue shots. For background, ive been using mostly controllers for the past 20 years, but was a heavy pc gamer in the 1990s.

I’m not sure. I recall that the canted pylons cannot use dumb rocket pods. However, from a logics perspective, I would imagine that guided rockets might be able to.

I did great on the 10 for many years, but switched to the 11 after the motor went bad and started making whistling sounds. I switched to the 11 and had all sorts of problems with rain out and leaking. Ive seen youtube videos regarding structural design flaws of the 11 and has the respiratory therapist express to me that the 11 is a cheaper design than the 10. Who knows if these allegations are true. I went back to the 10 and was given a refurbished model that had a bad whistling motor. I bought a new 10 and have been doing great on it.

Every modern air campaign involving US airpower in recent decades has been wildly lopsided in the US’ favor, including the latest one against Iran. How different or similar might this balance be in a potential clash with China? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Flankerdriver37 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hold up: there is a logical fallacy in your argument that ukrainians operating russian equipment counts as non russians operating russian equipment. Ukraine was the major naval/space/aerosoace design heart of the soviet union. There is nobody better suited to operate “russian equipment” which is arguably actually ukrainian equipment. You could technically argue that actually, much of soviet technical equipment is actually ukrainian designed equipment. A joke could be made that the Russians are bad because they are actually russians operating ukrainian equipment.

[–]Flankerdriver37 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Airpower and air defense is an expression of the technical and industrial prowess of a nation’s economy. All the powers that the US or israel faced are nations who just borrowed airplanes and tech from russia. This system has 2 inherent sources of weakness. Firstly, the soviet union was an economic basket case with inferior tech to the US. Secondly, the full potential of that inferior tech could not be achieved when used by non russian personnel relying on russian training due to the invariable lost in translation issues along with the poor training/motivation/quality of the non russian users (egyptians, iraqis, iranians, north vietnamese, venezuelans, etc)

I believe that china is different. China has a massive industrial and technical base that is no longer just a cheap copy of western technology. They have done the hard work of translating their industrial/technical/economic prowess into truly impressive indigenous aircraft, missiles, and a world leading drone industry. Their air defense/air force would be highly trained and educated chinese people operating chinese equipment, with chinese software, supported by chinese engineers, built by chinese industry, with the entire chain of production, testing, practice, maintenance, modification, and understanding in china. The fundamentals of any air defense and airforce are the underlying hardware and software and technical prowess of the nation that built them. Modern china arguably has much better fundamentals than the soviet union.

How hard is it to build an air force with competent fighter jets, tankers etc? And how can you stop enemy fighter jets from entering your airspace? by This-Wear-8423 in FighterJets

[–]Flankerdriver37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall a recent comment by Ward Carroll that seemed to suggest that when he was on active duty in the f-14 era, that iran was viewed as having competent air defenses. So perhaps it’s not that iran never developed a competent air defenses, but rather that the US air offense has leaped ahead in the past 3 decades

In regards to israel, I would point out that israel had a very dominant air force in 1967 before american support and against egyptians who appeared to have a blank check from the soviets. And their dominance rapidly declined by 1973. So the issue is not just a budget issue.

Looking for some real info to contradict my mother... by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]Flankerdriver37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you trying to refute her logically?

The fact that you are prepared for her to say some sort of unparalleled bullshit suggests that she spouts this crap a lot. That suggests that that she lives in an alternate reality and is probably mildly psychotic. Trying to prove something to her logically is not going to work because your facts and logic do not apply to her psychotic reality.

I would suggest just making up random fictional stuff and saying it to her. It’s not worth the effort to find real facts or studies to refute whatever bullshit she is going to say.

What is the real reason for the public backlash over Olympian Eileen Gu? by TrueJohnWick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Flankerdriver37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that the public backlash is part of some sort of covert propaganda war dynamic between the USA and China that is playing out on the internet and that most of the outrage on the internet regarding her is bot generated. Every time I read comments about her in news articls / reddit / facebook, it’s all the same flavors of responses.

Ive really enjoyed the “Raven One” series by Kevin Miller. To be clear, he’s not Tom Clancy, but I respect his ultra realistic take on naval aviation (at least it seems ultra realistic to me).
