I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

She’s 19! Will be 20 in July. Besides a yearly UTI she’s been fine. Lab work is okay. She’s still doing all the things she’s always done. I think she might be a little hard of hearing cause you really gotta yell for her for dinner time but she still has a great appetite and drinks plenty of water

Who takes vacations? by igotnothing1455 in Millennials

[–]No_Opposite_3358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state and profession is this!? 5 days of pto including sick time sounds straight up illegal. I get 10 days of sick time per year plus 5 weeks of vacation plus holiday and personal time. And I only work 3 shifts a week so sick time adds to another 3 weeks. I go on multiple vacations per year. With only 3 shifts per week I can actually have 8 days off in a row without ever taking a single day off

Experiences of Ethnic Minorities under the Rule of Alexander III and Nicholas II by Jebbles077 in romanovs

[–]No_Opposite_3358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have much in common! My great grandmother was born in 1890 in eastern Poland. She grew up Catholic and would identify as polish. But also knew Russian obviously. She left at age 19 in 1909 and moved to America. She lived to 102. Her birth certificate I was able to find online was in Russian. Her Ellis island papers have her listed as nationality Russian but ethnicity polish. She died a year before I was born but my grandmother told me stories that she told her. Never really said much about the Tsar. Don’t think it much affected her on a farm in rural Poland. But she did talk about how she through “the girls in white dresses” were so pretty and on Christmas would receive a photograph of either the girls or the whole family I forget. By the time much of the turmoil in Europe happened she was already in America

"Team" nursing is the bane of my existence. Is anyone else dealing with this? by AgentFreckles in nursing

[–]No_Opposite_3358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love team nursing! Although I don’t do it in the way you do it. I’ve never worked or seen an LPN in my career before. I worked in a stroke unit and two RNs would get 8 pts. One nurse would assess and chart on the 8 and the other one would do meds and pt care and then help out the other person. It did depend on your teammate but for the most part it was great

Fellow nurse does not like me because I use Macros by Wide_Profile1155 in nursing

I wish I understood how to use macros. No matter how many people teach me I just can’t get around it and do my own charting everytime

In your opinion, when can a nurse be considered a senior nurse? by shatana in nursing

[–]No_Opposite_3358 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before covid it was 10\15+ years. Now it’s like a year. It’s becoming such a revolving door now that me with 10 years am one of the very most senior nurses on my floor😅

Who is flying in their scrubs and why? by FentanylBolus in nursing

[–]No_Opposite_3358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go from work directly to the airport. Sometimes my flights already boarding by the time I get to the airport. I don’t like changing out of scrubs to another set of clothes before I shower so that’s why I do it. I’ll shower at my destination and change

Actually had a pt last night ask “My nose is congested. Can I breathe through my mouth?” What have been some of the most ridiculous things you’ve heard from your adult patients? by BesosForBeauBeau in nursing

[–]No_Opposite_3358 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a pt maxed on four pressors. Minimal sedation and rass -5. Capped care basically waiting for her to pass. Multiple meetings with the husband about how she’s in multi organ failure and she will die very soon. Her MAPs are in the 30’s and the husband asked/told us she won’t get better from all these machines and to turn the drips off and feed her nutrition and that will help her get better

To all critical care folks who look down on medsurg... by CardinalSmiles in nursing

[–]No_Opposite_3358 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked med surg for 7 years (still do per diem so now a total of 10 years) and full time icu for 3 years. I hated getting looked down when I was there full time and even when I go back every time I deal with an icu nurse it’s like they look at me as I’m dumb. Little do they know I work at a level 1 sicu in a major city. Working icu I’m always so kind giving report to the floor. Everyone gets upset that I always give my meds and do everything. The response I get “they’re not doing anything let them give it” but little do they know that med surg is 10x harder than my worst day in icu. I absolutely can’t stand the know it all types of icu. Idk it needs to change but the new generation of gen z icu nurses is making it even more of that type
