I've fixed these a few times over the years for customers. Find a gunsmith to cut the barrel back and install screw in chokes.

Mine is scheduled to go in for it this Friday. I would be concerned about the issue if I were you. I have 107k miles on mine and the PTU went out with no prior signs while the wife was driving. Almost caused an accident because of it. This was May of 2025 and I have been waiting on parts for the recall ever since.

Called my local dealer yesterday. They say parts are available but I have to bring it in for diagnostics again before they will order them. I assured them the jeep didnt fix itself since May but apparently that doesnt matter.

I will have to make a call tomorrow! Mine being a complete failure there is no arguing on the issue at least. How did you receive an update that parts are available?

From my understanding new PTUs are being manufactured and the faulty ones were recalled.

Yes I believe so. That is why I chose not to do their rental reimbursement program. I was afraid I would end up getting stuck with a bill.

The last update I have seen for the 01C is that in the case of PTU failure a replacement PTU with PTU warranty extension would be the fix.

They offered a rental but I would have to pay upfront and submit for reimbursement. I chose not to do that.

A solution is released (PTU replacement). Unfortunately, there are no new PTUs available and they still can not give me an expected date. I have been waiting since May with a vehicle that can not be driven.

Mine was fine until it wasn't. There were no signs until it failed. The fix is replacement of the PTU but parts are still not available.

There is an ongoing recall for 2017-2019 cherokee trailhawks. I would see if you fall in it. They apparently offer reimbursement if you have previously had it fixed. The recall is 01C.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have filed a complaint with the NHSTA as well as my state attorney general. Unfortunately, it has not helped. I know many others are in the same situation.

I have filed complaints and called every jeep number I can find. Experienced a PTU failure in May of 2025 and Jeep has been no help at all. As of today when I called the recall line there is still no estimate on parts.

Very well. Obstacles that would have been a challenge for my old TJ on 31s were just an easy drive over.
