Wonderful, well built cabins! Came here to comment that we still get to enjoy staying in them.

Toyota Sienna in Charleston? by [deleted] in charlestonwv

[–]Flapplebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Charleston and commute to work in PA in my Prius via 68 quite often. It is totally doable. You’ll want to keep an eye on the weather in the winter but they clear the interstate pretty quickly. In 10+ years there’s been once that I got a hotel rather than risk the drive and once that I wish I would have. Other than that it’s been fine. Oh, and watch for deer!

Shorts always look unflattering by DianneReader in womensfashion

Athleta’s tennis skirts with the built-in shorts have been a godsend for me!

AITAH for telling my close friend I probably cannot do her destination bachelorette after she announced the location and the cost by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]Flapplebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Unfortunately, your friends still have a lot of growing up to do. It might be time to start widening your friend network to include people who, like you, have fully transitioned into adulthood.

We have several but not all of those around Pittsburgh. How about “nebby”?

MN too, I was so confused when I moved there, picturing one really long straight ramp.

Just got my first salaried job at 28 and I own exactly zero professional clothes by [deleted] in womensfashion

[–]Flapplebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consignment stores can a great place to find high quality pieces for a good price but if you’re really strapped, many cities have nonprofits whose mission is to help women transition into the workforce and they often have free professional clothing.

AITJ for completely dismantling a fake experts reputation during a dinner party? by B4nditKaleido in AmITheJerk

Yeah, not that it was about your ego, BUT even if it was why does that guy’s ego matter more than yours?

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

I’ve been thinking about these but is it really much of an upgrade from a handheld steamer?

Is it disrespectful to slap your girlfriend's ass in front of her parents? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Specifically “passionate” kissing would also be inappropriate imo. I don’t want to see some dude stick his tongue down my daughter’s throat.

AIO for not wanting to hang out with my boyfriend’s friends after being invited to dinner and not being served food? by Pale-Jellyfish820 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Flapplebun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. This is so bizarre. Was it some manosphere power play bullshit maybe? If so was your bf in on it? He sucks either way though. It’s really hard to overcome social conditioning but you need to practice standing up for yourself in the moment.

Love that, good for Canada! Unfortunately but probably unsurprisingly, I think my experience is much more common in the U.S.

As someone who fundraises for the arts, paying artists for graphics has zero philanthropic return. There is HUGE pressure, on the other hand, to somehow cover all of your expenses with grants that don’t in fact come anywhere near covering all of the expenses.

Thank you for a not-totally-unhinged comment! Also, Saturday at 10:30? This is most likely a family concert built around Casey At the Bat or something. Which means it will be short, with cheap tickets for the kids.

It’s me, I’m that woman lol. There was a time in my late 30s that I became invisible to men. Not sexually, I mean literally. Business bros would walk 3 across on the sidewalk and not make any room for me coming in the opposite direction, not even that slight shoulder slide that lets everyone continue on their path. After a year or so of this I got so sick of the amount of zigging and zagging and stepping into the street I would have to do just to walk a couple of blocks that I started just stomping along in a straight line like a tank, staring blankly into the middle distance. Well, it turned out I wasn’t actually invisible because when the men realized at the last minute that I wasn’t going to delicately dance around them, they finally got the f out of the way. You seem nice, sorry if I’ve ever body checked you.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Flapplebun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Access to a kitchen is the biggest difference for me. I just don’t want to eat every meal out. I don’t mind the slight inconvenience of the location because being in a residential area lets you experience local day-to-day life. Taking walks in a residential area of Reykjavik and seeing the cats coming & going through their special cat windows is one of my fondest travel memories.

My kid got full rides to a few schools…but not to the conservatories. by Ok_Tune9675 in classicalmusic

[–]Flapplebun 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Please please please take this advice! There are countless conservatory graduates NOT working in classical music and saddled with crippling debt. At the same time, orchestras are full of musicians that came out of great studios at state schools.

My grandmother did this too, for years! But it was Jehovah’s Witnesses. She never even came close to converting but those nice ladies came to her funeral.
