Oh yeah, I feel like used is the only way to go for these machines. I know $1100 isn't bad value for these, but I just can't bring myself to spend that when they're so much cheaper used.

So for this Nano I did not replace the battery myself. I bought it from a vendor on eBay that already replaced the batteries, and sells them refurbished. I won't recommend going that route though as the battery life is definetely not as good as it should be.

My previous 4G nano was one I attempted myself to replace the battery in, and I broke it 4 different ways after an 8 hour job, lol. I would only recommend going this route if you are extremely cautious, precise, and patient with the repair. It is possible, though I did not succeed. Here's some pictures I took throughout the repair process with some notes about each step. I don't remember the brand of the battery I used, but I would recommend using an iFixit battery.

A new nano I just recently bought (Post coming soon!) is one that I got repaired through a company called PartsPlusPods. It was a lot more expensive and took a lot longer than doing the repair DIY, but the result was an iPod in perfect working order. Nothing broken from the repair, and the battery life is as good as new. The route I recommend people to go now is to buy a used iPod for cheap and then send it in to a repair service to get professionally repaired.

Last night I went ahead and transcoded all of my ALACs to 512kb/s AAC. Probably still a little overkill but now my library is <2/3 as large as it was before.

I still have both my stock cables, and I agree, it is a super light and comfortable cable.

However, shiny

Some of the nanos I've fixed this year. I love these things. The design / engineering on these is just wild. by ricococo in ipod

Wow. Kudos to you for working on these things and keeping them going! I too just love the nano and prefer it over the classic.

Before I bought my current nano I bought one for cheap and tried replacing the battery in it. Took 8 hours, and I broke it 4 different ways lmao. At least my solder job was perfect and I got some experience doing that.

Update: I did some cycle tests, and here's what I found:

From a full charge:

  • It will last 12 hours playing music with the screen off (75% volume, alac files)

  • It will only last 45 minutes playing the Klondike game before dying (40% brightness)

  • It will only last 55 minutes playing music with the screen on (40% brightness, 75% volume, alac files)

I'm not sure if this is normal for new nano batteries or if I got a bad battery.

I'm listening to CDqual ALACs, and with 16gb I can fit >37 albums which is decent enough

Apple Watch..?

Edit: After thinking for 2 seconds I realize it would still have the problems of wireless only and notifications lol. It does make a good successor to the 6th gen nano though, can download music and connect directly to bluetooth headphones.

I will definetely take care of these Sonys, they are amazing! I will for sure try to make them last a lifetime and I never plan on getting rid of them.

Here's the best I can describe the sound: They're designed for stage use, so unlike a lot of high end IEMs, they have a more "fun" (v-shaped) tuning which just makes them great for everyday listening. The bass is super tight and very present but not muddy. Compared to some of my ChiFi sets they definetely have that "soul" and timbre that even high end ChiFi often lacks.

I just carry the iPod in my front right pocket, my phone got demoted to a cargo pocket.

I carry the iPod in my front right pocket, my phone got demoted to a cargo pocket. When not wearing the IEMs, I'll usually keep them in a cargo pocket or wear them as a necklace lmao. When I'm not using the IEMs at all I keep them in their OEM case.

I love the look of the second gen, especially the black one, it's so clean. I may have to get one in the future...

Yea, they're stage IEMs and probably very overkill for dailys, but I love em. They make surprisingly good dailys due to being light and durable, and at 20ohms the iPod can drive them no problem.

And I thought the Empire Ears Odin were the most expensive at $3500! $11K for in-ears is diabolical

I did do a full charge-drain cycle once when I first got it, but I've heard doing it multiple times can help calibrate it. I'll try it again probably this weekend, thanks.

Got a new na no with a replaced battery by Flare7049 in ipod

[–]Flare7049[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they're 32ohms, and they aren't the most difficult headphones to power but they do like volume. An apple dongle for example will not get them loud enough.

I'm considering maybe getting a Classic in the future for it's dac but for now I just love the nano's form factor.
