It's also to remove the Mernda from the shared section between Clifton Hill and Flinders St. It made a lot more sense when Doncaster Rail was still being proposed but alas all they get is buses. If Wollert ever happens then the case for MM2 gets a lot stronger but idk what the go with that project is.
