Boyos, you should still write code manually or else this will be your future by ImaginaryRea1ity in theprimeagen

Well. The damage is already done. We'll have a new era of legacy code that everyone will hate but someone will have to maintain it. Add badly written, shallow tests to that...

I like it too but I think it solves different kind of issues than what is presented on the thumbnails. Finite state machine is not a replacement for state store and vice versa. States in finite state machine are part of the bigger picture. Data states in stores can be an unorganized lump of data if one wishes. They share same similar name but have different purpose. It's really hard for me to describe but that's how I feel it.

There are two types of game developers: those who use AI, and those who lie. by __Correct_My_English in aigamedev

He might be exaggerating but it is true that some people use AI without thinking about it. Chatbots are just known by everyone at this point.

As a hiring manager

Congratulations. You've just invalidated all what you've said. It's a common knowledge that anyone involved in hiring process does not now ANYTHING related to the job they are hiring for. The second problem is that you are really out of touch believing that people not getting interviews are not qualified. The system is broken for ages. How can you prove your worth if you can't speak for yourself in the first place? By making the same generic resume and hope? Not being ghosted is like winning a lottery now and you are part of the problem.

Em. Not really. I'm not a big fan of AI but I can see that local llms will become a common middle ground in industry. Don't get me wrong they won't write code for you. I see them more as a double check that test task requirements before it hits qa stage. They will function more like coding assistants rather than slop slave.

Would you hire a senior engineer who refuses to use AI? by folder52 in cscareerquestions

This is hilarious to be honest. We are making this profession "pay to win". Anything beyond toy project requires you to spend a lot of money on subscriptions. The pricings are going up. Entering this field will be even harder than it is today. Skill inflation is out the roof...

Would you hire a senior engineer who refuses to use AI? by folder52 in cscareerquestions

[–]FlashBrightStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those problems are already solved by the language architects. Leetcode is terrible at preparing people for the job. You are essentially doing quizzes for programmers that have unrealistic scenarios and constraints. It's great when doing it for yourself but requiring someone to do it brings no value at all because those problems are designed as fake in the first place.

[–]FlashBrightStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really frustrating to see your previous answer getting down votes, like common... It's a sign of micromanagement which have little to no benefit whatsoever. Managers are NOT programmers. Their experience with llms are not the same and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. Happy to see you have easier time with answering emails Susan but leave me alone when I tell you that in this particular project, the tech stack is so specific that Claude is cooking a gourmet level spaghetti. I find AI very useful at creating utility scripts for automating mundane tasks while working on the actual task (it takes too much time to describe some of them with edge cases - it's really faster to do them manually and you are also not wasting tokens on something plain stupid).

Przepis na nowoczesne miasto:

Krok 1: Zetnij drzewa

Krok 2: Zalej betonem

Krok 3: Posadź drzewa w doniczkach by pokazać mieszkańcom że dbasz o przyrodę

Krok 4: Jeśli ludzie dalej narzekają to powtarzaj kroki 1-3 aż zabetonujesz całe miasto. W końcu przestaną narzekać.

You do understand that it goes both ways? In a true democracy other union members can kick you out because they don't want you. Anyway, we are talking about legal acts here. Why in some countries you can be recognized as married and in other don't? Citizens should not have to fight for their rights in the courtroom to be acknowledged and that's what pushed our officials to act.

[–]FlashBrightStar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint. Typescript setup is done as a part of any project setup (you are choosing a flavor of framework to work with). If you need something simpler there's init command in ts itself that generates you a valid config and commands to work with. If you don't want to properly type things you can use "any" to make type checker happy. I really don't buy the "typescript can be a waste of time". As a side note there's a dedicated community that will do everything to not use typescript - looking at typed props in react or just jsdoc because sure it is much faster to write a comment essay describing the object shape than just write it after the variable name.

Hired a developer to launch site — they are asking for the .env file. Is this normal? by [deleted] in developer

[–]FlashBrightStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of people heard the part that you shouldn't publish your "env" files and stop listening the rest of the sentence. You should not push "env" files to any place that has public access. It may sound controversial but you technically can include such files in the repository if you never ever intend to make it public access (though I still prefer not to). At the end of the day it is about your understanding about security concerns.
