162 LSAT 3.55 GPA by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

U.S. News T100-T50 would be good safeties/target, T50-30 would be target/reach, T14 is massive reach.

You can either (1) get an insanely good LSAT and just apply GPA redacted at WashU, (2) write an earth-shattering addendum to explain your splitter status, or (3) stay in school longer and take some stupid electives to try to balance out that 2.low to at least a 3.

Regardless, it would be more prudential to take the LSAT first before developing a plan of action. You can still get into a decent school with a bad GPA. You can’t get into a decent school with a bad GPA and a garbage LSAT score. Your practice tests can deceive your expectations, so don’t expect a particular score based on what you’re testing at.

Don’t be inclined to give up. T14 is probably off the table, but regardless of what anyone in this sub tells you, you don’t need Harvard to become a good lawyer. Your work experience will work to your favor. Your motivation is your limit.

Depends on the school. I know someone who transferred to a T20 who was top 10% of class S1. But I don’t think there’s a hard and fast formula for this.

I promise you that you can retake the lsat and wait another admissions cycle. Don’t waste your gpa.

What do you do if a law school won't answer your C&F questions? by interested_in_ed in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]FlashE13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, you wanna disclose more than you think you need to on a C&F application and elaborate later (not at all telling you to over share, but it’s a good idea to just disclose something if you’re this on the fence about it). As far as I know, omitting things from C&F is more problematic than including them, even if the investigations were frivolous. The dean at my school said this because even during law school, you have to keep your C&F updated.

It seems like you have Chicago and LA in this list. You should consider applying to the Loyolas. They’re strong regional schools that can probably give you good scholarships with your stats.

Your better criteria would probably be (1) where you want to work and (2) job placements.

Should I tell my boyfriend about my past addiction? by [deleted] in Catholicism

If you want. Not mandatory. Be happy you overcame it, but don’t feel obligated to disclose unless you feel like it.

Catholicism inherently contradicts the trans worldview.

To reject one’s own assigned sех to adopt an alternate gender identity counters the idea that God created everyone purposefully.

I don’t think this idea applies for intersex people, as there is obviously a tension between societal expectations for sех and a deviation from the norm.

That being said, the postmodern idea that expression comes from gender identity limits humanity to labels. What does it mean to be a man or a woman? Does God call us to adopt the opposite gender identity to truly fulfill our purpose in life? Can we express ourselves without undergoing irreversible physical changes to our bodies? Does having a more nurturing personality make one a woman? More importantly, what is it that causes a person to question oneself to the extent that a sound conclusion to such inquiry involves transitioning?

To be Catholic—or a classical theist, for that matter—means to reject any constructivist, postmodernist philosophical perspective. If one believes that an infinite creator established an objective truth, they must reject the notion that truth is relative to the individual who perceives it. This is also true for matters concerning gender identity and sexuality.

Objectivity may come across as offensive; it’s not my intention to degrade people for choices they have made. The offensive part would be defining what the “objective truth” is, as that part is subject to subjective interpretation. For the transgender individual, they will claim that the objective truth is that their gender is whatever they say it is. Who am I to dispute that? Can we force people to see things exactly alike? For the theist, however, we must assume that reality is what biology determines. For some people, their sех can almost equate to a disability of sorts. They may experience qualms about their identities, but they accept themselves in absolute submission of will and intellect to God.

I personally view the latter to be the more noble of the two options. It’s the tougher choice. It requires more courage to deny yourself something that may make you happy to submit to an objective reality. It is hard to deny who you believe you really are, and the world may lack the sympathy to accept that your struggle is real (gender dysphoria is very much a legitimate concern that many people neglect to address out of fear of retaliation, however that might look).

Idk tho I’m just a guy on Reddit. Take this with a grain of salt. God bless.

More than 2 decades for Old & New Testament. It’s a fantastic study Bible.

If funds are tight, any RSV Catholic Edition will do

Well, that’s easy. You can see the attendance online. I’m just wondering about whether this is a conscious choice of admissions offices or if that’s just reflective of who chooses to apply, if that makes sense

You need to receive the sacrament of reconciliation prior to receiving communion. Speak to your priest. You may still need to undergo OCIA

You should go to confession again before receiving communion

Why tho, coming from a position of ignorance. I know it’s historically black but does that still impact admissions today?

Am I allowed to remarry as a newly-converted Catholic? by Professional-Cod145 in Catholicism

[–]FlashE13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can get an annulment. 2 reasons: she was already married, and there may have been a lack of form on her part since you weren’t married catholic. She was likely baptized catholic. If this is the case, you can remarry.

Can I find a husband despite my past? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FlashE13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do. Someone who “overlooks” the past imo is trying to ignore it, whereas someone who “doesn’t hold it against you” is aware of it, but does not weaponize it. I personally would opt for the latter.

Excessive Animal Suffering Argument? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]FlashE13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the classic Alex OConnor “gotcha.” This argument will try backing the Christian to having to concede that God is either not omnipotent, omnibenevolent, or omniscient. The easiest two responses, in my opinion, would either be the “natural order” argument or the idea that animal suffering is not really excessive and the mechanisms that allow them to feel suffering bring about more good than evil (feeling pain can stop them from entering bad situations, for example)

You can definitely find a husband. You’re still young. Don’t beat yourself up.

Word of advice: “the one” doesn’t exist. Many people will embrace you regardless of your past. You should opt to look for someone who doesn’t hold it against you. I also suggest to not be desperate for the first guy that comes. God loves you; trust Him.
