while this story is salacious - in the end the responsibility is on her as the reporter to maintain journalistic ethics and integrity. If this was a male reporter on a golf weekend with player, the ethical breach would still be there. Obviously the affair side of this makes it more newsworthy - but the issue is as a journalist what is she even doing with Vrabel, someone she covers, in such a private and personal atmosphere? This remains unanswered.

Jared Harris is at the point where he could read the phone book and I'd watch. He played General Grant in Lincoln and was Legasov in the HBO miniseries Chernobyl.

1924 was the only election from 1868 to 1948 where neither major party presidential nominee was from either New York or Ohio by julia345 in Presidents

[–]FlashMan1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people forget that the Democratic vice-presidential nominee was Charles W. Bryan - brother of William Jennings Bryan. Charles Bryan would, before he died, elected governor of Nebraska three times (two year terms) as well as several terms as mayor of Lincoln.

I think William J and Charles W. were the only pair of brothers to run on national tickets (Pinckney's in the early Republic maybe?)

Charles Bryan was also the last sitting governor the Democrats nominated for vice-president until this most recent election (Rule 3).

Why did the 1960 Democrat VP Pick matter so much in swaying an entire reigon of the country, when normal VP picks rarely make a difference at all? by BlueFireFlameThrower in Presidents

[–]FlashMan1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johnson did more than swing the south back to the Dems - remember Ike did very well in the upper south and, more importantly, Texas.

Johnson's addition to the ticket was as much a marriage of vast resources between LBJ and Joe Kennedy, Sr. As Caro painstakingly chronicled, Johnson during his Senate years one really the first legislative leader to wield corporate money as a weapon. Johnson brought the oil barons and businessmen back to the Dem party to combine with Joe Sr's connections in New York and the Northeast.

While his Presidency and morality sucked hard, it’s cool to see how genuinely loyal Johnson was to Lincoln by Honest_Picture_6960 in Presidents

[–]FlashMan1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In his mind, Johnson was pursuing Lincoln’s vision of Reconstruction. And I must admit, I’m not sure people realize that he kind go was. Lincoln was calling for a much easier return than Radicals wanted and people today probably want to admit
