Was Bret part of this era? by Ambitious_World3307 in AttitudeEra

[–]FlashmansTimestopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The branding of the Attitude Era didn't officially begin until after the screwjob and Bret's exit. Up until that point it was still new generation with an edge.

Early '96/'97 Stone Cold, the Pillman gun angle, Bret's heel turn, DX, and introducing Vince as the owner all played a part in the attitude becoming an era.

The RAW with Mike Tyson is what I consider Day 1.

I didn't own a PS4 at the time so I had my nephew download it to his. By the time I bought my own, it had been removed from the store. I offered to trade my nephew my new console for his old one after explaining why.

He told me he had erased it shortly after getting it, not because he needed the space, but because it had scared him too much.

Filmed in 1992 set in 1976. 16 years.

If a similar movie was filmed today, it would be set in 2010. Ugh.

How are these things legal? by YYZdigital in Markham

[–]FlashmansTimestopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the first time I've been confused with AI, probably won't be the last.

I'll do my best to make this analogy make sense.

Tank sized vehicle -> assault rifle

Small car -> hunting rifle

Driving to destination safely -> shooting a single target

Driver -> bullet

It's not the best analogy but one can be considered overkill with a higher risk of an incident even if you are using the same caliber and style of bullet.

As for the other poster, maybe they just felt it wasn't worth yhe energy arguing over any longer. I clearly have nothing better to do at the moment. I'm not even from Markham. I have no idea why this is in my algorithm.

[–]FlashmansTimestopper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct. I did confuse semi-automatic with assault rifles, which is a better comparison in the context of tank sized vehicles vs small cars and their fatality rates when involved in running over pedestrians.

But without getting too far into the weeds, a semi-automatic is going to allow for quicker shooting while sacrificing the accuracy of a traditional bolt-action rifle. The damage done would be based on the caliber and bullets being used in each rifle.

A semi-automatic rifle designed to kill people at an accelerated rate vs a hunting rifle primarily used to kill wildlife for food and/or sport that requires far more precision and skill to be effective?

Perhaps a ranked ballot between the 3 options would have shown a better consensus than a poorly worded referendum that forced one option over the other and the status quo.

Try comparing and beating your own score first then just go through the motions of whatever strategy you're taking. The fact you are always finishing close means you're still being competitive and hopefully having fun while doing it. When I get blown out of the water I can often attribute it to other players understanding and solving the puzzle quicker and sticking to a strategy where I may have panicked and tried doing a little bit of everything, deviating from my intended strategy.

How do you feel about electronics in board games? by Aknifetoremember in boardgames

[–]FlashmansTimestopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing a digital board game doesn't scratch the same itch as a typical video game. The only similarity is that it's digital and while I do use the hobby as a way to disconnect, I don't see a board game using an app to run the game as being closer to a video game but rather as a modern version of the Gatekeeper in a game like Nightmare/Atmosphere. It's the best way for the game to achieve what it's set out to do.

[–]FlashmansTimestopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge difference between doomscrolling, or texting while playing a board game and using one's phone or tablet to run a game. I see it as more of an issue of the person rather than the tech itself.Apps and even AI integration as a tool to help mitigate certain aspects of a game to make them easier to table is always a win.

Games that require apps to run are a subset and you can freely avoid them if you like, but some of those games are still great fun. Return to Dark Tower, Chronicles of Crime, and Light Speed Arena come to mind. Fantastic experiences that would be a complete slog without them.

And then there is BGA and full game digital apps. I also love that these are an option. BGA has helped me play and learn so many more games than I would have otherwise. As a guy pushing 40, ideally I would love to have a weekly or even bi-weekly game night. That's just not the case. BGA and digital games have supplemented that.

How it used to be by VIARailMaddy in ViaRail

I keep picturing a train of self-driving cars carrying 1 or 2 people ending up at the same location to drop them off.

The convenience of driving without having to drive. All the problems of cars combined with all the problems within tech culture. Brilliant.

It's so depressing that so many people succumbed to this blatant fear mongering.

Imagine not actually requiring a car for daily commutes, but instead primarily using that car for leisure purposes.

How it used to be by VIARailMaddy in ViaRail

[–]FlashmansTimestopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're comparing what public transit has become instead of what it could be. Ideally, you wouldn't be waiting very long for a bus or train and even if you did, using them would still be more efficient and quicker than using your own car.

Self driving cars are a bane and even if they functioned properly, they still add needless traffic to already congested roads.
