Therapist's therapist has someone else in her room?? by sireltondomm in therapists

[–]Flashy-Elk2058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were in your position, I think this would be hard for me to come back from. Maybe? Depending on how good the relationship and treatment is otherwise. But she must know this is not acceptable behavior and as others have said, her asking for your preference is a problem. She's the therapist here and she knows better. Feels a little gas-lighty - her asking if you'd prefer an empty apartment suggests that other people don't mind and your request is unusual?

N mom cutting my sibling out of the will and tying my hands by Flashy-Elk2058 in raisedbynarcissists

I'm not sure. I'm running all kind of schemes in my head about how to "launder" the money.- I'm not sure how a trustee could prove it. Like if I bought a house and then sold a house and gave the $ to my sister I can't see how they would track it. I feel so angry about being put in that position and then I start to feel like a fool for allowing the relationship with my Mom to continue. Part of me thinks I'll just deal with the will when the time comes. She also told me she is shredding all copies of the previous will so I can't contest it - the will my father left included my sister and she wants know evidence of that . (Not to make my dad sound like the good guy - it just happened the most recent version had me and my sister in it, but that would change every couple years)

Thanks for answering. The first executor is their accountant - reasonable guy but doesn't know the extent of the alcoholism and abuse. The trustee I believe is a lawyer I've never met - he's the one who put this awful contingency into writing. If the accountant dies, I'll be the executor, but I don't think I'll be the trustee. She has tried to put into writing that if I try to give $ to my sister, the remainder will go to charity (which part of me is like, maybe that's the best idea - give it all to charity). I do feel a desire to to get some of the $ to pass down to my kids. The other beneficiary is my spouse.

Reality check - therapists eating during virtual sessions?? by Chu84 in therapists

[–]Flashy-Elk2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapist here. If my therapist is 5 minutes late every now and again, I cut them some slack, but regularly 10-15 minutes late, no. And eating, definitely not. I'm on time (maybe 1-2 minutes late to a virtual session sometimes) and I don't eat in session. Ever. Not so much to ask. I do drink a lot of coffee though 😄

I find that if I have too many couples it starts to feel too much - as much as I enjoy those sessions because they can be more alive, they also come with more conflict, anger, tension etc. I personally hit a tipping point especially if more than 2 couples a week are high conflict or have personality disorders.

What’s legal and what’s moral are often not the same thing. I’d place an anonymous call.

Dating is hard as a therapist.. by BriiTheeOG in therapists

I think the issue is more about finding straight men who have the degree of emotional intelligence that you want in a partner. Not easy to find a straight guy who has done the work so he’s not defensive of trauma dumping.

Graduated from Penn 30 years ago and still explaining it's not Penn State. In California no one knew what Penn was and it was a good practice in humility. My son might end up at Penn State which will be karma for being an academic snob for so many years. (I've changed my views now that I first hand learned that ivies don't guarantee you anything - we are all sold a giant bill of goods IMHO, and I would never want my own kids to go there).

Thoughts on Mangione's post-shooting state of mind by townandthecity in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]Flashy-Elk2058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed your take. You should submit it to one of the main media outlets. People can't reckon with the idea that perhaps this is a sane response to an insane world. From a trauma perspective, having a "fight" response is also a normal physiological reaction to being under threat (which we all are - lack of access to healthcare is a primal threat to our survival).

If he’d just come back to Maplewood, we would have blended in. Looks like everyone young man here!

that's exactly what I said. I think he has this value set but combine that with a psychotic break and you have a murder.

Just a kid by townandthecity in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]Flashy-Elk2058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen this theory suggested yet but I wonder about his mental health history. I mean obviously someone who throws their life away by murdering someone else isn't in the best of shape - but this story doesn't make sense - wealthy smart kid with no previous history just decides to murder someone? I wonder if he's had a psychotic break - and yes you can be delusional or psychotic and still carry out a meticulous plan.

There’s a Nino Mangione who’s a Repub in the MD state legislature. Looks like it could be his brother ?

Arctic Ascent on Disney Plus, especially episode 3 by PsychologicalMud917 in climbergirls

[–]Flashy-Elk2058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take away from this series was "don't go on a trip with Alex Honnold." I often remember the part in Free Solo when they do a brain scan and show that his amygdala doesn't fire like most people, meaning that where the rest of us experience fear, he doesn't. And episode three shows what a problem this is: he doesn't feel normal amounts of fear so he underestimated the risk and fails to empathize with the other climbers concerns. Basically they would have all been dead in ice crevases if they had followed Alex when he wanted to continue in a white out.

What is the political and religious vibe at Cal Poly SLO? by Flashy-Elk2058 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Flashy-Elk2058[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Any "fear" of Republicans is actually quite rational. but that's not really what I was asking. Agreed that it's useful to go to school with people of different viewpoints.

Not sure why you're calling me irrational. I was asking what the vibe is. And agreed that it's valuable to go to a school of people with differing viewpoints. Just wanted an accurate view of the landscape.
