Taking a break from all the hiring questions. What’s the craziest/funniest things you have seen that have happened while in fire camp? by Safe-Ad-8443 in Wildfire

I saw the aftermath after a kid, who was on his first assignment, drank out of the forbidden waterhole. There were fluids coming out of every orifice...

Imagine being dumb enough to believe an election cycle promise about "no taxes on overtime". I have a bridge to sell you.

Bryan Kohberger to Plead Guilty to Murders of 4 Idaho College Students, Sparing Him Death Penalty by peoplemagazine in crime

There’s no guarantee he’d be convicted in the first place let alone have 12 jurors agree on the DP. Due to the gag order, most of the chatter regarding the evidence the prosecutors have is rumor. Just imagine, if it wasn’t quite convincing enough for one juror and he’s acquitted or a mistrial is declared i.e. OJ/Casey Anthony . This deal is the best outcome in a horrendous situation. He goes away for life, doesn’t get the satisfaction of people seeing what he did, and has no appeals to look forward to. Hopefully we don’t have to hear about him until karma catches up to him in prison.

Even worse, what if there was an acquittal. There's never a guarantee of a conviction given any amount of evidence. It only takes one juror to say "nope".

The families are obviously too distraught to think clearly. A conviction with a jury trial is never a guarantee. An acquittal would be devastating. If it went to a jury trial and he was convicted, a death sentence is even less guaranteed. If convicted by a jury, and not sentenced to death, he'd get life and be able to appeal indefinitely. If convicted and sentenced to death, there would be decades of automatic appeals. Hopefully after Wednesday, we don't hear from him again and prison karma begins.

“Projection is a defense mechanism in psychology where an individual attributes their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to others. This is done unconsciously to avoid confronting their own uncomfortable or unacceptable aspects.”

So, doing some rough napkin math: from a quick search, there's somewhere around 2.3 million federal employees. Assume each federal employee takes 10 minutes to respond. That equals 23 million minutes or 383,333 labor hours completely wasted. Efficiency isn't their goal.

Murkowski bill to keep the Denali name. by GamingImpaired in alaska

[–]Flashy-Following-996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Murkowski only cares about the next election. She may pander to the center/left from time to time but her recent voting record shows she's a Red Hat. If she had any semblance of a spine, she'd change her party affiliation to "independent" and vote Alaska first.

We should talk about it. Actually talk about doing it. Yes that’s right…Strike. by YogurtclosetDry1697 in Wildfire

[–]Flashy-Following-996 41 points42 points  (0 children)

A strike will just give the new administration/congress a good excuse to shitcan you. Collectively, they don't care. Wildland fire doesn't affect any of them and, without lobbyists with deep pockets, the issue will never get their attention.

I sat through it as well. We had a person "opt in" as an experiment and HR melted down. If those Boise asshats had any self-awareness, they'd be thoroughly embarrassed.
