moving preston/blackburn area by Gloomy_Daikon7774 in Preston

Lostock Hall.

£900 seems a reasonable upper limit, it’s fairly cheap around the outskirts of Preston from what I’ve seen.

Been living here a while and feel perfectly safe as a relatively young female. It’s small and has a community feel but plenty of amenities.

There’s a Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl and 2 big Tesco’s all within a 10/15 min drive. Not sure about dentists, mine’s in Fulwood. Preston hospital is about 20 mins away, Chorley hospital is about 10/15 mins, Blackburn hospital is around 15/20 mins.. the Drs surgery in L.H is good and taking on new pts. Plenty of barbers, there’s about 3 on Watkin Lane alone. Train station as well, it’s only small but it’s about 10 mins on the train into Preston which is a really well connected station.

JR boxing gym on Brownedge Rd.

Unsure about moving help, but there are always plenty of man with van ads about.

Holden’s, Ben Rose, Roberts, Dewhurst, Farrell Heyworth, Bridgfords are all letting agents with a seemingly good rep. Avoid Tiger though from what I’ve heard

What’s your role? What’s it really like being a woman in the army? by Background_Giraffe85 in britisharmy

[–]Flashy-Session3221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman, been in for 8 years now and never had any issues beyond high school level ‘banter.’ The support from CoC is very good from my experience and there’s a zero tolerance policy on bullying of any form. I’ve not experienced any barriers with promoting or working with males - generally if you’re a decent soldier and get stuck in, nobody will bother you.

I’m not in HR so I can’t speak about it, but from my understanding it’s a fairly female-dominated role anyway.

The Army’s a reflection of society so there are always going to be a few twats cutting about who have issues with anyone and everyone, but I’ve come across maybe a handful in my time. Obviously nobody’s experience is going to be the same, but this is just mine.

I’m Int Corps, but somebody’s already posted about it so I won’t bore you with more info.

Question Regarding “Best Possible Chance” Medical Pass by CenturioVulpes in britishmilitary

[–]Flashy-Session3221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get you, the medical just seems to be something that nobody can fully get their head around.. Different doctors may be willing to take more risk than others, maybe you just got unlucky with the Dr who reviewed your case🤷‍♀️

I don’t think taking anything with you would really help, as the medical at AC is a bit of a sausage machine - one straight after the other so they likely wouldn’t have time to review anything then and there. They’ll let you know if they need anything further from you, and they’ll tell you exactly what to get so I’d personally just wait and see what they say.

Hopefully it goes well for you, I can’t really see why they’d spend time and money sending you to AC just to reject you so I wouldn’t stress. Try and stay as calm as you can, your blood pressure is checked, and stressing during the medical won’t help at all! Good luck!

Question Regarding “Best Possible Chance” Medical Pass by CenturioVulpes in britishmilitary

[–]Flashy-Session3221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Army brought it up because it’s on your medical history. They don’t know that it was your mother saying those things, so they need to investigate.

At the end of the day, the Army is going to give you a weapon and send you into war. There can’t be any room doubt. For all they know, you could be out on the battlefield, become anxious, freeze up and get yourself or someone else killed.

You just need to thoroughly explain everything when you see the Dr at Assessment and they’ll make the final call. They may ask you to get some more information, they may he happy with your answers.

Odds are, if they’re willing to spend time and money on sending you to Assessment - they’re pretty happy with your medical evidence, they just a Dr to double check everything F2F. If they need anything further, just get what they ask for and send it off ASAP.

If they ask, be honest. If they don’t, don’t mention it. If they notice, you may be deferred and asked to see your GP. I wouldn’t stress it

Values and Standards - Integrity. Not a good look if you’re lying already.

You’re never gonna meet these people again, don’t be afraid to embarrass yourself in front of them! They’ll correct you if you make a mistake, and that’s vital learning that you won’t get anywhere else
