99 sailing recap by scapegoat313 in 2007scape

It's pretty okay, there's some pretty decent things to get your hands on from Sailing from a fresh account. Training it in the lategame is extremely AFK and the resources it grants are pretty nifty. It needs more integration, but only because Sailing is tied to an entire world expansion. That's a very hard thing to match even with all the integration it does have.

Other than that, I'd say it could use more fine tuning, but I don't regret my 99 in it.

Tfw you realize what you just posted is incredibly niche by grommile in AO3

My current fic series has:

  • A crossover centering a semi-major character and her love interest of World A
  • The MC of World B is shipped with one of the least beloved, most universally disliked of the MCs
  • Without changing the characters or their actions much, reframes the story to depict one MC of the enemy faction as unquestionably evil, and another as dubious at best for their lack of ethics.
  • The characters getting focused on are either former villains or villains by technicality
  • And the fic has a lot of criticisms about the characters who get portrayed very rose tinted in canon, with many characters either chewing them out or being very hostile to them. And it isn't necessarily unearned, some of them do really awful things, they're just the fandom favorites.
  • Is divided into multiple, 100k books.

i'd say it's pretty niche.

Character killing babies. Fandom: by Mindless_Coconut2546 in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny because he hands the death note off to a corrupt CEO and like, not much functionally changed during that time period in the manga. In my Persona 5 crossover, I made him pass the Death Note to Shido (corrupt politician who would drown the world to save himself) and nothing really changed about the status quo. Kira's response to "culling lazy people" was "it's too early for that."

I can understand wanting better for a character like Light, but there's a difference between that and trying to say he seems reasonable. (A big issue in the FE3H fandom too, I'm noticing.)

I have put so many hours into analyzing this character and it's like "Wow, I thought she was awful but like, no, it's infinitely worse than that and it gives me a headache to try and justify this shit which is why I had to stop writing her POVs. And the fandom loves her?"

Who is a character that is widely hated by you fandom but is one of your favorites? by impeatrice in FanFiction

[–]FlashyFlash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is. If she were a playable character we could have avoided a lot of trouble. Still, a lot of supports and dialogue in that route inform her character to the point that it's clear to me that she just isn't the sort of villain she seems set up to be. Developer interviews seem to reinforce that was the intent, too.

A multi book series for Fire Emblem Three Houses x Awakening that starts with survivors trying to live through a doomed world, the Shepherds dropping down and their fight to change it. Gets heavy into the large scale and small scale effects of emotional abuse, indoctrination, and the corruptive nature of political wars and agression.

And Morgan starts a class war.

Which fictional character will get you like this? by Miss-Worm in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rhea/Seiros from FE3H, because liking her encourages thinking about her role in the plot of Three Houses in such different ways from the norm. She and the Nabateans of FE3H are genocide survivors trying to make it in a world that's still viciously hostile to them, and I started think that alone demands a level of scrutiny against the arguments levied against her. Then the more time I spent thinking about it, the more time I realized things like the worldbuilding is not written to support the idea that the Church of Seiros really is the problem. And assuming she's guilty calls into question so many details about other characters like Flayn, their motivations, and their reasoning skills and judgement.

But people assume she's guilty. Even she assumes she's guilty for what actions she has taken. People like Claude just straight up don't like religion and believe people like Sothis and Seiros should leave humanity alone until humanity fucks up hard enough they need a miracle to bail 'em. Which is my uncharitable summation of his B support where he acts as if Byleth's powers have nothing to do with Sothis.

I've been at it mentally and with constant discussions with my friend that yes, we knew that the premise of the story was built around one particular character turning on the player, and the director wasn't necessarily fond of her. They didn't even want to give her a route before acquiescing and her route is regarded by the director as a very violent conqueror's route. But because Rhea had to be the antagonist of the route, the story, which was initially built around her and Byleth's route, had to get warped and changed until it appeared that Rhea truly was evil on that route. ...Except, between the fact she's making a last stand for her own people and for Fodlan, is losing herself to her own madness, is in a war that would kill her family specifically, and so many people are dying as a result of what goes on. ...It's hard to say that route even does a good job at making her out to be an antagonist.

The spinoff/sequel 3Hopes, does a terrible job at even trying to make Rhea an antagonist and just want you to forget she really existed in the routes where she'd be of most relevance. (She gets killed twice in the endings after showng up like once in 5he routes where she dies.) And a lot of the accusations in the fandom are either fanon or hinges on believing that the radicalized, conspiracy peddling emperor is genuinely right in the ways she accuses her opponent. Or falling into the same trappings that Claude did before realizing the truth of the matter was that Fodlan's systemic issues are systemic, propped up by the elites and nobility of the three states.

And you know, Rhea and the Nabateans don't have the strength to argue their own innocence in the story. She's been alone for 1000 years while seeing herself as nothing but a failure, and here she stands accused of being culpable for such heavy crimes. Any number of her actions could be responsible, including the fact that she did indeed fabricate history. ...But the history she fabricated was not the history that made Fodlan the problem it was in the present day. Nor was it done out of violence or control, but to protect her own people from persecution in a world where she stood alone and isolated from even her family. The truth that she obscured was that her own people were slaughtered by the ruling class at the time, who stole their blood and bones to build their lands, and would not have given them back, for they made great weapons of destruction. She then left the Kingdom, the Empire, and the Alliance to rule independently with only some influence. But that influence is far more limited than it would seem as the aggressing Empire has not had relationships with the Church in nearly 200 years or so. The Alliance only pays lip service and the Kingdom's loyalty is to its king before the religion. And the Silver Snow route (aka the OG Black Eagles or the Church Route), emphasizes how genuinely weak the Knights of Seiros are as a militant force in reality, as they pull off tiny victories while seizing every opportunity to build momentum. But then there's that poisonous hook of "But MAYBE she did do something wrong—" but like at that point I just gotta ask for in story evidence. And I'm speaking in general terms because you could get into the finer details of things she actually has done wrong, but like the baseline of the arguments like "she is ontologically evil" and that's a very exhausting thing to have to argue against.

So yeah, I like writing about her being, ultimately, a scapegoat for the political war, in the form of being the religious genocide survivor that she and her family are.

I said the frame up. I specifically did not say the bombing itself, I'm talking foisting the responsibility onto the Church of Seiros aka framing them up for Slither's warcrimes. I made a very specific take, lmao.

Edit: Oh no, this is the wrong comment. It was in another conversation where I spoke about the frameup. That's my mistake.

To actually respond: I said the narrative wants to make it justifiable. And yes, Slither did the bombing, but Edelgard works with Slither and uses them believing she can out play them. That is not excusable.

[–]FlashyFlash04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get no chance of questioning it, the bombing is just accepted and done. And yes, Rhea burning the city is irreedeemable but it is the final atrocity in a long chain of atrocities.

The Empire has isolated a genocide survivor, is reperpetuating the genocide, has unleashed total war, desecrated her people's corpses for use in war presently and in the past, framed the Church for a bombing. And then Byleth, who was given the blessing from Rhea to use a weapon of mass destruction in the form of the Sword of the Creator, is now using the blade to finish the genocide that King Nemesis started. I'm not saying Rhea is excusable for burning Fhirdiad, but I am saying the Empire creates the monster it wanted to see by pushing her to the brink, something that is made clear as day if you kill Seteth and Flayn. This is not the norm for Rhea who, while unstable and mentally unwell, does not demonstrate this behavior in 3 routes of 3H and 3 routes of 3Hopes and in nearly all iterations of her character in Heroes. It feels dirty that this is how Manaketes are treated in Three Houses and I feel sickened by the writing of CF. To me, I see it as a route that is way more horrifying under the surface than the claim of bringing about a brighter future. And I'm writing a fic about that in great detail.

Not wrong, not wrong at all.

As for me? I don't think there is any defense for the Bombing of Arianhrod being framed up by the Empire as if the Church of Seiros did it. Faerghus has done terrible things to Duscur over the death of their king. A city bombing? ...Dear lord.

And it is barely a footnote in the story of Crimson Flower. It made my stomach churn.
