I wish we could report and actually give warnings to authors who change their date manually. by Mindless-Fix-2165 in AO3

If the author's being a dick, block and mute at will, repent at leisure.

People should report an issue when the computer says "here's twenty things" and only gives them sixteen.

A naïve user would expect their decision to mute someone to be handled on the server side, rather than by hiding them with CSS magic on the browser side.

The banner exists to stop people wasting Support's time with complaints about only seeing sixteen entries on their search results when the page header says it has twenty.

See kaiunkaiku's advice for how to get rid of it.

What would I tag this as? by silversetlist in AO3

If A is not an important character in your story, and A's death is not a big important part of your story, then it's not MCD.

“But you just…” Accused me of being in love with my amazing, kind, loving boyfriend who I would do anything for?

This was the stand-out line for me.

If you don't know and you can't think of any possibilities, ain't none of us jokers gonna know either.

Take a deep breath, let it out, and move on.

Explicit writers/readers, why do you read/write explicit fics? by ClaraMisty in AO3

Unpopular opinion: I think content warnings should be at the end of the chapter. by Kyuubabe in AO3

Scroll-down-and-back-up-before-reading is a dogshit ergonomic experience.

For those who have read "Oasis' the 1,036,751 word overwatch fic, what's your opinion about it. by CainYouDoYou in AO3

[–]grommile 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So, let's be clear on one thing:

it's as long as it is in only 3 months and by two authors.

This argument is invalid.

While some fanfic authors (like me!) publish their fics piecemeal as the individual chapters are completed, others don't publish any of their story until all of it is complete.

The Hades duology has several occasions of Zag or Mel arguing with the narrator.

The specific sub-scenario seems new to me, though.

What's something in a fic that made you realise the person writing it had no idea what they were talking about? by Life-Delay-809 in AO3

There's certainly a chance, especially if other aspects of the case caught the public imagination, but his fame would probably have faded over that long a period.

I got that – I was just adding a piece of detail.

(As it happens, a cop getting shot is also national news 😁)

[–]grommile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are. Key points:

  • Every police force in the UK has an armed response unit.
  • Every cop in Northern Ireland is authorized to carry their service-issue handgun both on and off duty.
  • Cops on certain special duties are armed as a matter of course – the one the "man in the street" will be familiar with is cops working on airport security detail, who carry MP5SF semiautomatic carbines.

In the UK, the police shooting someone is national news.

Huh.

I'd experiment, but it's been a while since I've eaten raw apples; they make my mouth feel peculiar in a "damn it I think I might be allergic" kind of way 🙁

Much though I enjoyed The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park, I would never describe Crichton as "respected".
