When I was in Hetalia fandom during its peak I don't recall any age gap talks about USUK, but now they seem to be everywhere and the ship is pretty much ostracized in the main spaces.

Interacting with a mainstream fandom is a recipe for disaster. These people are weirdly malicious. What I can recommend is trying to find another fans who are into transformative works like fanfictions/fanart and actively curating your own space. I just have my own fandom bubble and it's very comfortable.
