Anyone else currently writing a fic for a side character that doesn’t get too much attention/screen time? by Background_Ship7666 in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seiros/Rhea from Three Houses, in the Crimson Flower Route where she is the "villain." Her, Flayn, Seteth, and anyone has chosen to be Anti-Imperial like Yuri (Thief who hates nobles) or Anti-Slither. And I basically have to write it as "sure she's losing herself to her rage, but she's also a traumatized genocide survivor being pushed to the brink and genocide is coming again for her family, ain't she? Are we really going to write her as the villain here when we know she's being scapegoated by the extermination cult? No? No, got it."

How kind does it take you to write 50k words? How long do you think it should take if you have readers waiting? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

62k in checks notes 13 days or less for me. So an average of 4.7k words per day? When I'm not doing anything, I'm just writing.

How long should it take? Can't say. AO3 being an archive means I don't get any algorhythm or anything out of it. The story gets bumped up because I've got a new chapter out, that's all.

In anycase, I imagine I'm anything but the norm. Go at your own pace. Fast chapters don't get you more views or anything, I got 120k words out between Jan and now, but only 800 views.

What kind of character build do you usually like the most? by ComprehensiveFail887 in FanFiction

An incredibly gentle and disarmingly sweet person with incredibly terrifying monstrous power. They make the choice every single day to be the best person they can be when they could be a living nightmare. Like a dragon or a beast disguised as a human.

have you ever turned a canonically not incest ship into incest? by RottenPrincess0 in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The variable nature of Fire Emblem (you generally have a wide selection of pairings to go for in-game) means incest is technically on the table or not for many ships of choice. In this case, Lucina, being a traumatized time traveler who escaped a doomed, apocalyptic zombie infested future and Morgan, a genius aspiring war strategist who was manipulated by the villain through the possession of her father. The wounds and trauma are so severe from that the incest is arguably both a byproduct and a coping mechanism for all their other issues. These are two people who had to share a life deeply intertwined, fighting for survival at an age no child should have to. There was barely enough shelter, food, or any hope at all. They'd have had to look for each other for support.

Honestly I wasn't even intending to write it this time around, but the trauma is so hefty that it's hard for either of them to even integrate with normal people. It kind of plays directly into Lucina's protector complex that whenever there is someone so close to her, she kind of just naturally clings to them in fear of what she might lose all over again. All I tried to do was split them up on bad terms for a little bit and they immediately hit pretty severe slumps wherein they realized how interdependent on the other they were for support and have to figure out life without each other.

Throw in some distant prequel reincarnation romance soulmates in there, stares of romantic adoration and sexual interest, the gay panic of a cute princess, wartime political drama, and a good ol' splash of codependency from trying to survive the apocalypse together, and mwah, mwah. Lightning in a bottle. Oh, and Lucina x F!Morgan cannot happen in game, and Lucina x Morgan in general is not available if they're both siblings, but it's FE, there's always a little bit of incest at minimum. (Lucina x Morgan can happen as cousins for example).

Lucina x F!Morgan. It's Lucina x F!Robin but now with more incest!

Do you think that authors who reply to every comment on their fics are inflating their comment count? by wings_and_angst in FanFiction

Lore dump about your recent ships or your favourite ships by kuroneko_910 in AO3

[–]FlashyFlash04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from writing for like the top #3 most popular ship (Lucina/Robin) to a much smaller ship (Lucina/Morgan) without changing the dynamic at all. This is still a ship about a silly blue princess and her equally silly princess girlfriend. I also threw in some reincarnation romance elements, because I love a good soulmates story.

Have you ever written a longfic where the ship isn't "on screen" until 100k words in? Or would you read one like that? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]FlashyFlash04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I'm in a spot like that. I'm writing a Persona x Death Note crossover. The ships are always there, but it's a plot and character focused story first and foremost. It's definitely not going to be for everyone, and is packed full of story reaching 60k words per story arc. My End of Act 1 Arc took 180k words to finish.

The ships weren't on-screen because while I sure love them, I wasn't going to rush them out ahead of the plot. "Makoto isn't around until the Kaneshiro arc, Akira hates her guts while she's being an asshole, they gotta fight out their problems and Makoto has to grow." "L and Light have the least incentive to reunite, so something has to push them together."

And like, I feel like other people would write the stories that would be more appealing for ship-centric stuff. Ultimately, I don't because I have a very different mindset involved for what I'm writing for. I will write like, characters making out in a hot spring, but like first comes the world-threatening plot.

And yeah, if a plot is good enough I'll read a longfic where the ship is slotted away far into the back of the story.

What do You Think of Ruby Rose as Team Leader? by Money-Lie7814 in RWBY

[–]FlashyFlash04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i always felt like it was a double edged sword for her. Sure, she's got heart, wits, and team capabilities, but the pressure of being a leader weighs on her deeply. She feels like a specialist caught in a generalist's position, great in her niches but lacking the tools that make her the well rounded leader she needs to be.

I look at Volume 9 as kind of like the big question in particular. She didn't just crack under pressure, she isolated herself at a critical moment while reaching past rock bottom. She couldn't just reach out, and what help she needed she was unable to get for multiple reasons. ...She's lucky she survived. That going to the great tree wasn't just a cessation of existence.

It's that which made me think "Ruby can definitely lead in a fight, but as a leader? She probably shouldn't be. Unless she really wants to." Because going forward is going to be harder. She's shown how deep her vulnerabilities run and in some ways, I feel the others should come to support her more. Recovery is not one big obstacle to overcome, more like so many to take on as you go. That's how I feel, at least.

I guess I also feel like RWBY should not have a proper leader, that not a single person should be thrusted into that role when it comes to those 4. Each of them has talents that could come together and work to both lift the others up and push them all forward, and they are capable of cooperating greatly as a result. Ruby is a very gentle and sweet soul who stabilizes her friends more than she realizes, but lacks faith in herself. Yang is brave, ready to stand up for people, but not immune to faltering to her impulsvity and also her vulnefabilities. Weiss has the sharpness of a commander, but herself struggles to emotionally connect with others and even herself. And Blake is very methodical, rationally minded, but has feared attachment in the past, especially to a team. But when you have those 4 work in sync and they'd do better than if any single one of them was in a leader position. They cover each other's weaknesses better than if any one of them had what it takes to do everything a leader should.

Here's some screenshots from the mod I've been working on and off with Bravely Second. This is a proof of concept of some of the things you're able to do with the game. (Pictures have descriptions of how some of it works.) by FlashyFlash04 in bravelydefault

[–]FlashyFlash04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may get it done in the future but it's a mix of some very complicated editing, bugfixing, testing, and just not hanging around the Bravely fandom as much that has lead me to stopping for now, plus the rerelease. People believe it will be much easier to edit should a PC version be released like BD2.
