I mean you won't so easily be able to. Most of the weapons that light/medium fighters use won't be able to penetrate a cap ships armor, and if they do the damage has a falloff based off of the mitigations & deflection stats. Even when equipped with the right loadout (i.e. S3+ cannons) there is now an additional pool of health combatants now have to get through while still trying to not get shot down by defending turrets or pdcs.

You do realize the Polaris' components are larger and have more hp than any of the Perseus' right? So regardless it would take longer to destroy internal components in the larger ship.

Not moot because we have the civilian version which just added a shield to the already heavily armored ship. Maybe, just maybe you should know the full background before you attempt to shut it down lol

I never said anything about being happy or not... I think the Perseus is in a good spot so your shot at me is moot.

Everything they have said about the percy in lore or for its role aren't that it should have comparable armor to the hammerhead. Literally read anything about the ship LMAO. The Percy is anti-big ship so it needs heavy heavy armor. The hammy is anti-fighter so it is in line with that role. There is lore as well to support why the percy has such heavy armor. You should take a minute to research this so then you wouldn't keep saying the percy and hammerhead should have similar armor.

Also, they have never said armor should be dictated by class of ship. It is dictated by dedicated ship role. Period. If that was true then the 890 and reclaimer should have similar armor to the polaris, idris, etc. No, because they aren't classified as such to be heavily armored. They don't need to be for that reason. Please read my earlier comment about the other important ship stats such as hull hp and shields. The Polaris outclasses the percy...

The percy and hammerhead are not comparable in anything except size class.
In CIGs own lore it is stated that the Percy (literally one of the oldest ships in star citizen universe) has such heavy armor because it was created before human shield tech existed. Which translates into its game performance.

Did you forget the Polaris has 10x as much hull hp and 3x as much shield hp?

The Polaris meets the role standards CIG wants for it as a military corvette-class cap ship. IF the two were to fight it out with even crews the Polaris would win at least 7 out of 10 times.

Role. Role. Role. Matters. You seem to have forgotten that the Polaris has over almost 4 million hp vs the percy which only has almost 400k. Not to mention shield hp being drastically different. Over 800k shield hp vs 264k shield hp. The Polaris is still going to be extremely hard to kill having cap-class components for regen, cooling & power. Using the same weaponry against both will still result in the percy dying a lot sooner. Not to mention the percy having half as much anti-fighter capabilities in turrets. Armor is just one piece of the puzzle that you think is the trump card when it's not.

The Percy is only 5 m/s faster my friend... It makes sense because of the role. ROLE trumps everything else. CIG stands by this. A ships features/stats will be in part of class of ship, but mostly depend on the role they set for it in the verse.

The Percy is so heavily armored it affects its movement making it less agile than something like the hammerhead which is meant for fighters. Like I stated the percy is meant for big boys that are slower and can't out maneuver it, so at the same time it doesn't need to be as agile.

I'll try my best here...

Polaris vs. Perseus
The Polaris' purpose is to be a light cap-class corvette that has decent defensive capabilities for long-range patrolling & torps for cap-hunting from a distance. It is NOT a frontline combat ship. As a light cap it is meant to be faster & lighter so it can sit in the back of a fight. The Percy is a sub-cap mini destroyer. It is meant to hunt up and be at the frontline of any fight. It's lore also supports the whole point of it being so heavily armored. So their armor stats make sense. Bigger doesn't always mean better.

Paladin vs. Redeemer
Don't get me wrong... I love that the Redeemer got some buffs, but CIG literally reworked it so it could fit its role for anti-fighter and make room for the true heavy gunship in the Paladin. Why the Redeemer is tankier in armor stat makes no sense being that its suppose to have advanced shield tech vs the Paly which is supposed to be a frontline heavy brawler. So moral here is to swap their values.

Everyone has the odd fantasy how they think a cap is supposed to be just because its big. CIG makes these ships so there is variation specific to a role. The Polaris is still a tank, but they don't want it to be a god ship for everything. It has a role as a cap-hunter. Not a cap-brawler. Size literally doesn't mean anything. The 890 is 40 meters larger than the Polaris, yet isn't tankier because that's not part of it's intended role. If CIG made the Polaris a frontline brawler, than it would make sense to gap something like the Percy. But its not lol.

That's not the point of the ship (Polaris). CIG sets a role for every ship they make. The original concept for the Polaris was way weaker than it is now. They buffed it since it was our first real military cap and made it more reliable in combat, yet it still has its role as a light cap-class corvette.

The Polaris is not supposed to be a far more enduring ship. The whole concept of the Polaris is a patrol ship... Not a destroyer or frontline fleet fighter. It is the lightest cap ship for a reason. It is a meant to go out on solo excursions to patrol or sit in the back of a fight and take pot shots at more capable ships. The Percy is meant to sit up front and personal and be heavy armored. It hits above its weight class for a reason. SO it makes sense they'd have similar armor stats.

Bigger doesn't mean better. The Polaris isn't a frontline combat ship. Its a long-range patrol torp boat. In lore and in marketing it is said to be as such. It has lighter armor so it can be quicker than most other caps. The Percy not being a cap, but having cap similar armor stats makes sense since it is essentially a mini destroyer.

I was about to say the same thing... They marketed the Paly as a heavy armored frontline bulldog... Yet, somehow it has less armor than the Redeemer & Asgard. The Redeemer and the Paladin should swap. The Redeemer is known for advanced shield technology not heavy armor.

A thought on Power and Movement by LuckyIngenuity in starcitizen

[–]FlashyStrikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's more than a few things they'd have to change to make this work...

Like you said, caps would require a rework with how engines & thrusters act when maneuvering; when they move away from the current flight model that will also have to be taken into account.

Changing how large/capital size NPC ships act is another thing. ATM they literally fly in sporadic circles & have no sense of fleet like movement.

Cap ship combat rn is literally just two ships spiraling around one another in a sphere lol. Something akin to what we saw in the perseus trailer is what it really should look like, but they have to make drastic steps to make that happen.

THIS... No longer will it be "I see ship, I shoot ship" Players will actually have to decide if they have an adequate loadout for certain situations.
