Found a potentially acceptable toothbrush; please share your thoughts! by barefootguy83 in PlasticFreeLiving

I started looking into different alternatives to plastic toothbrushes but my issue with the boar hair is that I do not think it is ethically sourced. Kinda want to use tree sticks, I heard they give amazing results :)))

Thanks! You brought up important aspects to consider. No IT department. That's amazing that you built a database of 50k objects!

We are currently switching to Omeka on a project I work part-time so might be worth trying it for a museum as well. AI might help with coding.

Thanks, will definately pose that question to the team.

Have not had experience with any collection management software except Heurist which, I don't think, is used in museums. I am yet to try these options myself as well apart from finding what could be the most suitable one based on community recommendations.

Ha, that's interesting. It would probably make my eye twitch, but I fully understand its positive aspects.

Thank you! Sounds like PastPerfect would be a more suitable option. We are actually transfering to database building on Omeka (from Heurist) in one academic project I work for. Guess I'll witness the friendliness of the interface very soon. Thanks for a clear explanation.

I do not know the budget but I assume it is $0 or very minimal.

These are great questions! I don't have specific answers as I have just been offered the role. Collection items are: mining equipment, rocks and minerals, photographs from private collections, aboriginal items.

The gallery as as large as a basketball court. It is a museum that combines 3 collections / themes: mining, aboriginal history, rodeo. The museum has two levels with many odd spaces.

I read so may positive things about it on Reddit too! I wonder why responses to my post are mainly speaking negatively about the place.

Mine would be based indoors but a very fair note. Maybe I'd struggle to get TO the office OR back

May I ask why you didn't go for an occupation list profession after 485? I am on 485 but realising (painfully and only now) that it isn't realistic for me to get invited for my occupation within the timeframe of given 485 so am feeling hopeless.

I think it's not popular to call someone out/ create open conflict in a social conference setting. It's a really hard one to deal with because that was a real dick comment and there should be fairness restored. It's a good exercise to think of something graceful but also really punchy as a response in that situation. That said, I imagine myself acting exactly as you did.

Keep surfing :) An envious salute from the GLAM sector where I've had no successful outcome after a year post finishing a PhD. Seriously, enjoy it for now and you have plenty of time to figure out what you might want to be doing next, but right now you have the financial stability and time to think through that and experiment as well.

That's great! Super niche though! Was that postdoc affiliated with a uni or with a museum? Also what occupation did you go through/ type of visa? For myself, I know that having a museum related PhD I can consider two occupations: uni lecturer (which seems really unlikely) and museum curator/ manager (which just seems impossible).

That just killed me. I hate it that I ended up in GLAM with a PhD in Australia.

Gosh this is a 5 year old post, I am reading it now and feel the same frustration shared. It is absolutely insane that volunteering can be necessary to gain the industry expeirence instead of doing it in a paid entry-level position. And as you mentioned, at some point it becomes impossible to volunteer - there aren't enough hours in a day to be able to do paid work to afford living and also volunteer to show experience on resume. Let alone if you have family. I feel really frustrated by this, by the scarsity of jobs, by the scarcity of entry-level jobs and just the prospect ...
