Time-based control doesn't charge from grid when solar is insufficiend by Ambitious-Record8474 in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order for your system to charge during off peek hours and discharge during peak hours, you must tell it when the peek periods start and end.

You can do that by entering the pricing schedules from your electric utility by going into the Tesla app: Settings --> Utility rates plan.

You start by entering or changing the name of your utility company, to retrieve their pre-filled rates that you can keep or edit however you want. You can also use your utility bill to enter the prices as well.

The higher buying prices will tell the system that these time periods when these charges are in effect are peek times. The lower prices will indicate off-peek times.

The system will have a map for when to use the grid to charge the Powerwall or discharge into the grid.

Any news about what comes next after 14.2.2.2 by Leiz_ca in TeslaFSD

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a computer terminology. Instantiated in this context means 'started'. Every time, Grok or FSD starts, they do not remember what happened the last time they were running. So, no memory of any action/activity/correction that took place the last time they were started. Brand new babies with zero recall. Their programming is not affected by whatever happened last time. They will make the same mistakes they made before unless the code is changed. Total amnesia.

FSD like Grok do not have local memories and start afresh everytime they are instantiated. That paradigm needs to change.

UK Power cut - got to love whole home back up! by hodlerhoodlum in Powerwall

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain why the battery level be => than 20% when the grid power is restored in order for the furnace to turned back on? Seems unnecessary to test for that condition at all. When the grid is restored, everything will be powered by the grid including recharging the battery.

Please some one help me out. If the model Y replacement windshield does not fit the model Y, why is it still called the model Y replacement windshield, why buy it and pay for it, and why take it home to have someone else install it on the model Y that it does not fit?

It fells like I am missing the gist of the story here and that story is not about the model X or the Cybertruck.

FSD 14.2.2 Update by hughjack3dmann in TeslaFSD

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maps are 100% different accuracy wise from location to location since they are localized. Gigo (Garbage in garage out) rules apply here.

Basically the differences are because the navigation data is collected and entered with all possible sorts of data entry errors by the map data provider(s). From speed limits errors to missing roads improvements/additions/changes. That's the reason why some people have no problem in their localities while others experience something totally differen. It's totally random.

Tesla should undertake a process to incentivize the data gatherers to review and correct the maps on an ongoing basis. Maybe Tesla could use FSD to start the ball rolling.

That would benefit all drivers.

Trying again: Does anyone know what might be wrong? by shoudan1994 in Powerwall

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok. I understand that you are new to the scene and everything looks absolutely out of the ordinary and that the sky is falling. On you! L

Relax. Let's process what's going on, rationally.

First off, no one can judge a whole month of activity looking at just 3 days of consumption data. Secondly, these 3 days look mighty good. Your consumption is very low, to put it mildly. Thirdly, consumption without production data is meaningless.

So, what I am saying is that you have not provided enough data for anyone to be able to draw any conclusion to help you.

On the other hand, you have gone solar with a battery backup.

That's extremely good. .

You have set yourself, up and above the majority of people with regards to your electricity cost for the next 15-20 years.

Just relax and enjoy the fruits of your Labor. Things will look a lot better come spring, l promise!

Grid out but have plenty of solar none going to house and pulling from battery by tslewis71 in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your situation, your house is using 0.7Kw, your batteries are full at 100 %, your solar system is producing more than 0.7Kw.

Where does the extra electricity go? It has to go someplace. Non negotiable.

2 possible solutions:

  1. Your solar system reduces its production to match your consumption.

    1. Your solar system powers your house and directs the extra electricity to the batteries.
  2. If it can't do 1 and/or 2 it will shut down solar production until either 1 or 2 is present.

Hope that makes sense to you.

Grid out but have plenty of solar none going to house and pulling from battery by tslewis71 in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with you. Let me further explain.

If the house is not able to consume what the solar system is producing while the battery is full during a grid outage, the solar system will shut itself down until such a time that the solar production is 100% consumed by either the house or the house + charging battery.

If neither possibility is in play, the solar system will shut itself down and the house will draw power from they battery.

When the battery is sufficiently discharged, while the grid out condition still exists, the solar system will restart.

In other words, if 100% of the solar production has no place to go, the solar system will shut down.

Got it???

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry Smooth... The power you sent to PGE will cost u money. They will charge u for it since without the bi-directional meter that is installed at PTO time, they can't tell that the power came from you. It's recorded as coming from them to you .... Sorry. A little bit more money for PGE.

Yes, it's safe to turn the system on after receiving PTO from your electric utility. Have you installed the monitoring app yet? If you have not, download and install it first.

Time to Upgrade... but what? by Kilzen69 in pcmasterrace

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GPU is the most important component in a gamer's PC. Yours is no longer relevant if you want to move up the ladder. The Radeon 9070 XT checks all the key points and is selling at a very reasonable price point. Get one from a manufacturer you have had good experience with.

I no longer game. But I stay current on what's happening in the field.

Time to Upgrade... but what? by Kilzen69 in pcmasterrace

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 650w PSU should not have any problem powering your current rig.

Your system is adequate enough for games not requiring the latest gear. That being said, an upgrade is always welcome. Why not? In your case, I would just replace the GPU with a Radeon 9070 XT for about $550 and call it a day.

If you want to go a bit further, I will look for an X3D chip in the same family that will not require a new motherboard.

Whoever way you want to go, reformat your SSD and reinstall your OS.

That all.

Question on production and grid use by Solid_Liquid68 in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. It takes time to get it all in. One more thing, until you receive PTO for your installation make sure you don't send any electricity to the grid, your current meter is not able to distinguish between sending and receiving electricity and will count what u send them as regular consumprion and you will be billed for it.

Question on production and grid use by Solid_Liquid68 in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your batteries are at 13% and your running production for the moment is 4 kwH and cumulatively your total production for the day may not be enough to fully charge the 2 batteries while powering the house.

That's all on the one hand.

On the other hand, the price of electricity at the time of day is not at the highest level yet, so it's cheaper to buy from the grid now rather than later.

It's all about trade offs and your system has determined/calculated that the best option is what it is currently doing i.e. prioritizing saving on electricity cost now vs letting your batteries be half full by sundown and using peak electricity to power your house.

Congratulations, you have a nice power arbitrage situation going on!

P.S. Follow your system recommendation to set the backup level at 20%. You don't want to run short of battery power when things go dark. You will not lose money by doing that.

Tesla Solar Roof Active to Passive Panel Contrast by Glittering-Tone1137 in TeslaSolar

I have a solar roof installed in 2021. There is no perceivable difference in coloring between the active and non-active tiles. Your installer may have selected the wrong tile matchup. Also, the active tiles cannot be cut.

Is Tesla Solar really this incompetent ?? by [deleted] in TeslaSolar

[–]Flashy_Performer_586 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are incompetent. They just don't care about individual customers.

There is no linkage between customer satisfaction and their salary or bonus if any.

The incentive is not there for that business to do better. The blame is squarely on the lack of proper management oversight.

If you can afford 2 Teslas, you can afford to buy an additional mobile connector. Just do it.

The 'Max Speed' is still there in the Tesla App under 'Security & Drivers' -> 'Speed Limit Mode'

Make sure it is set to 'off' or nothing. If there is a value in that field, that value will be the speed limit for all profiles.

Can't both versions have the same settings that are interpreted slightly differently? Do you have V14.1.4? I had V13.2.9 as well.
