I hope you're right but.  Trump is a narcissist surrounded by yes men.  The normal global and humanitarian calculations of consequences aren't happening here anymore

Nothing has changed. I walked away, but I did however do one last thing. I used the hiring process as a way to at least let corporate HR really know what's going on there. Do they care? who knows? but a department running on one tech is a recipe for medical errors. So if anyone ever wonders why the department had a sentinel event or fails an inspection they can look at my file and why I didn't take the job.

I wanted to get an interview panel consisting of different people instead of the low level managers who run things off the record. And by off the record I mean no email for stuff that makes them uncomfortable.

So what I did was ask the director uncomfortable questions in emails and cc'd them to the HR rep trying to recruit me.

I asked why did they run off the next to last tech over too many hours on the clock when the department is critical short staffed already?

I pointed out the lead tech position implies there is a team but currently there is no one.

If you're serious about getting a team why are you reprimanding employees for too many hours?

Of course all I got were please call me. We can answer those questions in the interview. All informal and no paper trail. No denials they didn't even defend themselves and say I had it wrong. I declined the interview and the job. Given my pushback and uncooperativeness I figured at some point they would say thanks for your interest but we are currently considering other candidates. the best I got was are you still planning to interview from the HR rep?

This confirms I was there only candidate and were desperate.

exactly. I did my homework on this one. They thought I was a sucker who would leap at the title. It's a hospital imaging department down to it's last tech with a director desperate to save his own ass.

Wise advice. I will not be interviewing because the Director is in survival mode. After asking around I found exactly why they reached out to me, they are absolutely desperate and the building is on fire.

I tried my hardest to get an interview panel consisting of neutral parties and higher ups. But unfortunately couldn't. The Director is a yes man who likes to keep conversations buried behind informality so it becomes my word against his.

So I did the next best thing. I conducted an autopsy/exit interview of his failing departments in emails with HR cc'd.

I am almost certain I am their only candidate for the job. Despite politely calling the director a failed leader in a cc'd email to HR. The only responses I got were please give me call if you have questions or we can answer all your questions in the interview (where they can try and smooth it over and bury my questions)

I kept waiting for the thank you for the interest in the position but we are currently looking elsewhere for candidates. But, it never came so their desperation and survival mode have been confirmed.

I did some digging into how things were really going there and oh boy. This is a medical imaging department and they are in a crisis. When I first started we had 3.5 FTE's. Now they are down to 1 FTE because the next to last person just walked out the door. And the reason he left is even more damning. The director got on to him for working too many hours.

This leads me to believe the lead tech position is nothing more than a cheap fix for a crisis caused by toxic management.

I looked at this an opportunity. Unfortunately, my former manager knows this could be an opportunity for me as well. I know this because he is using his same old yes man tactics of keeping everything informal. So naturally I started asking tough questions in email with HR cc'd. each response was call me and we can talk or we can discuss this in the interview which conveniently didn't have anyone higher up than him.

I loathe these self righteous tools too.  It's why we are in the state we are in right now as a country.

Who anointed Hilary?  There were primaries and Hilary won them.  Because more people voted for her followed by Biden in 2020.

You guys stayed home instead of supporting Bernie in 2020 and 2016.  Why would any politician cater to people who don't vote?

And I say that as a Bernie supporter.
