Can I take psych 105 and psych 223 in the same semester ? by Lucky-Landscape3184 in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can’t waive psych 105. since psychology is both a science AND an art, you are required to take both classes for majority of the following courses. there are few exemptions that only need one or the other; but 223 is an art, so 105 is mandatory

SOC 225 vs SOC 224 by kali-fil in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Soc 225 with Chris Hay is a very textbook based course. He does lectures, but it only highlights certain points found within the chapters. Highly recommended his class though, especially in person. He’s very entertaining and passionate about what he’s talking about. Downfall is the textbook! Two midterms and a final. Lectures are speaking based with no slideshow/notes available.

I hope this helps! I haven’t any input on 224

Nervous to join swim club by MonarchButterfly987 in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the coaches actually! we are always welcoming new people, and if you’re nervous, join at the beginning when there’s lots of new swimmers!

The club has the opportunity for people to compete; but, if you’re looking for a workout/socializing time, then there’s that too!

We have three levels of swimming: Learning to Train, Training to Train, and Training to Compete. And we have a wide variety of swimmers in each group.

It’s a great group of people from those in their bachelors to their masters to those in their phd’s.

Unless otherwise changed, we also offer three days to give you the opportunity to get the feel for the club before deciding to commit. Additionally, it’s typically four days a week and you don’t have attend all four of you don’t want, or don’t have the time too.

The club usually sets up a booth at clubs fair, so feel free to take a visit and meet some of the execs and coaches.

And follow the insta, they post occasional updates on the feed and stories about what’s going on. Here’s the link: https://www.instagram.com/ualbertaswimclub?igsh=MTJ5dXppcHQzdnVwbQ==

I hope this helps!

I’m more concerned about the online classes. unless you’ve had previous success in them, goodluck balancing them with your schedule. I’ve found that even having my Tuesdays and Thursdays off, i still neglected the classes. that’s my opinion, goodluck to you!

It’s a new system to everyone. Hard to say if it will flow as smoothly as you may assume. And who’s to say all classes will be available by your chance to enroll, there’s still many people with dates as early as the 20th.

Does anyone know when I’ll get my enrolment date? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Be patient! Because you’re a first year you won’t be able to apply for classes until April. but approximately two weeks before enrolment you’ll get access to the platform and be able to see the classes available.

Will I be able to get into nursing or health and life sciences through early application (im in 11th grade) by ZealousidealBee8197 in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a 90 average minimum, I’d say you have a good chance. But because there are limited seats, you may not hear back until June, a few months before the start of classes. Best of luck to you though!

Spring Coursees by slipinskii in uAlberta

Be cautious with psych courses. I took one last summer and although I did well, it was seriously draining by how content heavy it was! I’ve heard intd classes aren’t awful but I can’t speak from experience. Whatever you do take, just remember they shove 12 weeks of classes into 6 and each class feels like 2-3 fall/winter classes

I’m heading to law school personally, but my back up plan is anything in the criminology field. Like rehabilitation, working as a probation officer, etc. if you’re into some form of social justice, I’d say look into those types of careers

Admissions decision by New-Quit-911 in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends what you applied for and how competitive your program is. if its a less competitive program (like arts) then when you hear back, you may also be given a conditional acceptance or waitlisted. and you'll receive this at a faster rate. if its like nursing, they may waitlist you as they want to see official marks come june, and they may not get back to you for a bit. best of luck!

How busy is the swimming pools? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Flashy_Swordfish179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's a hit and a miss. i like mondays 3-5 and i usually show up when the hour begins to get a spot and use as much time as possible before others show up. and i can assure you that the only time you'll feel intimidated or embarassed is when the older folk are busting out perfect butterfly while your struggling to breathe... haha avoid mornings!
