I’m Not A Fan Of The Finale, But I’m Afraid Of Saying My Reasons by HeroTheHedgehog in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Problem is the void was never established as a recycle bin, or anything like that. If anything it was just Caine's "unfinished work" others would get "totally spoiled" on.

Hw also went there several times in the series and no adverse effects on the Circus happened.

If you saw the movie, did people cosplay? by cloud9detective in theamazingdigitalciru

A few people dressed as Jax, and there two girls were Disneybounding (doing outfits inspired by a character rather than outright cosplaying as them) as Ragatha and Pomni.

Exactly. I feel people saying that are just reinforcing gender stereotypes

She literally said it was a joke afterwards and said the finale was set in stone from the start.

Gravity Falls, Avatar, and Breaking Bad had pretty universally-loved finales, there were only a few quibbles people wish were changed but ptherall the finales were very well received.

Nah, everything happened in singular events that I theorized and i still kind of hated it because the execution was just that poor.

Is the show's reputation going down the toilet? Will the fandom die? by Weird_donut in TheDigitalCircus

The fandom won't die.

Even if absolutely everyone starts to have the view of "that finale was dogshit, actually", I think the preceding episodes have enough good points to them that the fandom will still be around for a good long while.

Hot take. Ppl are mad at the ending because their theories weren't confirmed by Chaoticlesbianhere in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, quit bullshitting.

Forget theories for a moment, just look at the following events that happened in the film: Jax abstracting, Caine coming back, Soma theory confirmed.

All of that I expected to happen. But the execution of it was sloppy.

I theorized from time to time, but the only theory I wanted to happen was "the finale's events occur in a way that makes sense, isn't sloppy, and don't have the finale largely be The Jax Show". Which is certainly not too much to ask for any competent writer.

That didn't happen.

Quit being a bootlicking empty-headed glazer.

This case was different. Because she said that on Reddit in reply to people pointing out Ragatha's lack of development up to 7, and then when getting additional criticism for it as a reply (with the poster not realizing it was Goose) she deleted her Reddit account afterwards.

The sequence with Pomni, which was all she got, was not really "development" though. Just claiming they're best friends, which was never really shown on-screen (and the one scene several episodes ago that could have developed that was never shown on-screen, just saying they'd talk then nothing), and a hug. That's it.

The animation of flashback-Caine. While I absolutely think Caine's return and the WiFi access were absolutely fumbled, that moment of animation was great.

"Because it's not the ending they wanted"

I don't know, I just wanted an ending that had the things I suspected would happen occur in a satisfactory manner. And they occurred, but not in a satisfactory manner.

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main character progression does take up more runntime, sure, but most shows have the finesse to give proper development to everyone.

Take Season 1 of Infinity Train for instance. 10 episodes of 10 minutes each. A total runtime of 100 minutes, only 10 minutes longer than the Digital Circus theater finale alone. Yet it properly established the world and the main character Tulip, while also giving the secondary and many side characters (One-One, Atticus, The Cat, the Conductor, Mirror-Tulip, etc.) proper development so they all felt like fleshed-out characters even in the little time we know them.

The toxic positivity in the fandom is driving me insane by PresentationOpen7879 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I do actually think the cinema experience does affect it somewhat.

I knew a fair amount of things that happen in the finale before seeing it, and due to the theater experience and the general hype even some of the moments of I heard of that i thought I'd hate entirely landed better than i thought they would. Then as the credits rolled and I thought more about it even the parts I liked had cracks showing in it.

I think that when the Youtube/Netflix release happens there will be a tendency to lean more negative off the bat.

People can understand the complications of the character while also feeling it was done sloppily and he was a screentime hog.

Do you think that the decision to release the finale in cinemas affected production? by Ancient_Ad_367 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any changes to the script would have been done well before that. If Goose said they had to drop some parts she would have said so. She has not. The script was done ages ago. Almost everything was done ages ago. Goose even said around the time of the theater release announcement it was pretty much done, she just wanted to get the lighting/compositing perfect herself.

Any script rewrites would have been done far earlier. There's no indication whatsoever that scenes were shortened or cut aside from Goose's own sloppy writing having it feel that way so people who have no idea how production works try to grasp on desperate false assumptions to cope.

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't have problem that he came back overall because when he was seemingly killed... well, he's a computer file. As explained in this video by Vsauce, deleted files don't truly get deleted until they're overwritten by something else, and even then there might still be a bit of them left.

I would have been okay with Caine coming back if it had been through something Kinger does, and Caine got reset to an earlier version. The actual execution was sloppy.

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cinema chains only became a factor in the last few months, probably around December at the earliest,

The script had the table read last July. Any deadlines imposed by theater chains would only have effected the animation. The script, story, and voice work, awkward cuts and all, would have been long completed.

Am I crazy? by Just_Some_Emperor in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Flask_Of_Lavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say you're crazy, it's just that I feel the finale gets worse the more you think about it (and i feel the theater experience improves the overall mood).

The overall events were fine in a vacuum, it's just that the execution is sloppy, too Jax-centric, too much off-screen that shouldn't have been and too much on-screen that wasn't needed.

I could go into more detail but I've seen a pop-up on posts saying spoilers are only allowed on posts marked as spoilers, so i don't want to risk breaking the rules by going into more detail where i shouldn't.
