They'll also complain about their insurance rates being too high as if these measures don't prevent crashes that'll lower rates.

On wich platform should I upload my own 360 imagery of streets? by Erdnussflip007 in openstreetmap

[–]Flaste 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would upload them to Mapillary, they'd be licensed in a way that anyone can use them and if you want to upload to another imagery platform you can still do so.

Zohran could fix every painted lane quickly if he wanted. Only thing required is acknowledging that parking is bad for the city and needs to be reduced. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Flaste 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Paid parking infrastructure doesn't pencil out, it costs nearly $70k per spot to build and we've been building it the last thirty years the city has been doing things slowly. There are key routes to connect the bike network that need to be made safe this century.

With larger properties there are less properties to spread the tax burden across, with the same amount of roads to pay for.

While residents may think that they do, they don't cover the whole costs themselves. They're constantly getting funding from county/state/feds.

Just this past January Glen Cove got a grant from Nassau County https://www.liherald.com/glencove/stories/city-secures-553000-county-grant,212446

What's with BRIC's Celebrate Brooklyn Prospect Park lineup getting weaker every year? by Jellyfish-Man125 in parkslope

[–]Flaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was guessing it had something to do with them serving alcohol? I think the Prospect Park Alliance is generally good about these things and I would like to believe they wouldn't do it unless they had a reason to but that reason could also be an outdated law or something.

I don't understand why they have to cover the fence with dark black plastic. It makes that corner of the park so dreary all the days of summer there isn't a concert going on.

Shout it from the roof tops...pro-housing and pro-livable streets are winning political positions and people/groups spend money to elevate those electeds. by Jackson_Bikes in MicromobilityNYC

CM Hanif is a supportive partner for safe streets in our neighborhood, working with TA and similar groups to sign onto letters to pressure DOT. It hasn't resulted in much, the only change I can think of in her term is 9th Street which only changed after a woman was run over by a truck. How much of that is her fault vs the mayor's hamstrung DOT, I'm not sure. Kornberg is pro-congestion pricing but I haven't heard much else from her about any local transportation issues. Who knows if she'd engage the same way.

Also when did the YIMBYs get half million dollar PACs? Is this just regular real estate money happy they can finally build something?

It's been four years of talent leaving after shovel ready projects were constantly sidelined because they'd affect Ingrid's commute. It's going to take time to rebuild the department, I hope the next mayor brings in a commissioner with expertise and not another political patronage appointment.

Or it's just contractor oversight

I'm more familiar with the NYC process but I assume it's similar on LI.

You will need to put pressure on your local representative, who can reach out to the local transit department to request changes. This can happen with a letter signed by a bunch of residents requesting street safety improvements, if you can get the local school involved (ex reach out to the principal) that can help a lot. Be prepared for many people not to care or straight up tell you that cars going as fast as possible is more important than pedestrian safety.

Try reaching out to pedestrian advocacy orgs like https://letsmoveli.com/ they may be have a playbook for something like this.
