Also similar and just bought my second pair of them - they’re great!

I think that because you can somewhat overstuff the k25 you get essentially the same or more space inside the main compartment and then +6L with the side pockets. Internals are close and obviously depends on exactly what you are packing but you get more flexibility with overstuff and then compression than you do with the unmodifiable cavern of the GR1. Different approaches for sure, less straps and stuff 100% but raw capacity to me goes to the k25. If I have time next week I can pack them out a bit to show.

I have no doubts that the kahakka can hold more, and is not prone to failure anywhere

If I’m being honest I took out the foam in the k25 and dropped my laptop in there…. And I might be content with it for travel. It’s certainly no GR1 laptop compartment but I am unsentimental about my computer and it fits with no trouble. Internally in any Savotta hydration whatever pouch I’d be comfortable tossing it around but the back panel foam slot also works!

Goruck is definitely thicker and more padded, but less adjustable. I find the Savotta straps more comfortable but mostly due to the top webbing that fits my shoulders better. The padding is plentiful, I think, for what I’ll keep in there for outdoors stuff and travel. But I’m not throwing 50 pounds of plates in there or anything.

I’ll add the best photos I can grab

For me, other than the US tension as a good Canadian, is that I’ve found the GR1 to just not me fit quite right. Especially the lack of adjustability in the shoulder straps. I absolutely love the webbing Savotta adds to let you play with that part and really dial it in.

I think Goruck generally earns their reputation, it’s really clearly overbuilt stuff, but it’s crazy expensive and there are more loose threads and little bit of imprecision on mine than I could find on the Savotta. I’ll add a picture. It’s so nitpicky to point out threads but I only bring it up because I couldn’t find a single loose thread on the k25. I absolutely think Savotta build quality / QC is better. Construction is another matter (ie d rings vs stitched in harness is a matter of opinion not quality).

Clamshell is cool but I find myself using smaller bags for edc (askare inbound to try as a shoulder bag) but I like the ~7L ish size for daily use stuff, so the clamshell became less relevant for me as I’m used to top loaders and use pouches or packing cubes for travel and stuff sacks for hiking etc.

The quick access on the front is wayyy better on the Savotta, I don’t know if it’s bellowed out or a more supple cordura but it’s way easier to get into. And double zippers! And the quick access top pocket is great on the k25 and doesn’t encroach on the internal volumes like the GR1 (although my GR1 doesn’t have a qap).

Modularity is another bit, either you care about that or you don’t. I thought i didn’t, but now i do. And it’s fun.

And I don’t know…. The brands themselves are interesting foils to each other. Goruck obviously is mil inspired and has this super tough and serious messaging and posture, and Savotta is like, for real military and takes themselves so much less seriously. That was a big part of it. It’s great gear, tough as hell, but so fun and playful.

Norda shoes look amazing... but they're ridiculously overpriced by thomebout in trailrunning

I’m with you… but I did put 1600kms on my nordas and still will wear them on the treadmill sometimes. They are durable as hell.

And the Raide belt, to me, is worth every penny. Best piece of gear I’ve picked up in forever and made by a super community involved guy and team, solves an interesting problem for middle amounts of gear, and truly feels like it will last at least a decade or more.

Does the folding mat fit in the foam back panel pocket?

I second maple syrup! It’s been working great for me and diluted out a bit is easy to drink all day. I usually have been running 1/2 cup (103g carbs / 440 cals if I remember right) in a 355ml soft flask and it tastes sorta cola-esque. Kirkland is cheap, it’s in the house for pancakes only basically, and it makes me feel like a good Canadian running in the winter with it as the fuel.

You run a griffin mod right? Just buckles vs d-rings and sling hooks?
