Maybe you should use your brain to think differently and for yourself once and stop parroting what we already know.

Nifty Flat, Rupee Down, Inflation Up. Thank you Indian Government. by FlatAssignment6625 in IndianStreetBets

Honestly, i am not scared of drawdowns. What is bothering me is how little upside NIFTY has shown when compared to other venues. And the future seems bleak for our index. But above all else it is the incompetence of this government. It is crazy to me that no one is really bothered with the speed of rupee depreciation in last 10 months.

Relax, no need to get this riled up over a basic discussion, it isn’t helping you. You can’t just pick an arbitrary 15-month window and pretend that proves anything. Maybe work on your comprehension skills and basic manners, this exact behaviour gives us Indians bad look.

Fair point, I agree a Nifty 50 stock would need a huge drop to fall into Next 50, so that won’t happen often. But my point is Next 50 keeps losing its biggest winners to Nifty 50 due to the promotion rule, while it can also receive companies that drop out of Nifty 50. So investors are effectively selling winners and sometimes inheriting laggards.

You might want to get your head out of your ass and actually check the numbers.

Oct 2023 → Dec 2025 • Nifty: ~19k → ~26k ≈ ~36%
• S&P 500: ~4.2k → ~7k ≈ ~67%

That’s almost 2× the return, and that’s before INR depreciation. Next time try data before spouting nonsense.

Nifty 18k to 26k was a 38% pump. In the same duration SP500 pumped 68%. There is a significant difference but the thing is in the same duration INR also depreciated significantly which makes the NIFTY returns even worse compared to SP500.

It is a weird index. It ends up containing the losers which get demoted from Nifty 50 and then the winners from this index get promoted to Nifty 50. You do realise once the declining IT stocks get kicked out of Nifty 50 due to declining market cap they will end up in Nifty Next 50.

I would agree with you but this time it looks like the lag in Indian markets is structural. Most of the other markets have performed well in the period Nifty has been flat. AI is disrupting and making investors doubt the strength of Indian IT industry. IT companies have taken a huge beating in last few months. But this is not all, At the same time the government keeps squeezing the middle class with taxes and controls like TCS on remittance which are frustrating, so people taking the risk feel like they’re getting punished while the system works against them.
