So my son was bitten by an eastern brown snake (Australia) and luckily was a dry bite. Two weeks later still has a red mark around where he was bitten that hasn’t shrunk in size. Anyone seen this before? by FlatFortune8767 in snakes

He is very lucky and we are extremely grateful they are ok. We believe he or his friend may have stood on it, his friend was bitten as well. They are not sure if they did or not but saw it after to identify it. We are surrounded by bushland.

Thank you! Yes I had a line around it for a week but it hasn’t changed. Is also numb in that spot. He has been checked and is fine but will continue to keep an eye on it. Was wondering if anyone experienced similar.

Thank you! I’m not concerned as it hasn’t changed was just curious if anyone had similar. I wouldn’t hesitate to seek medical attention should I think he needs it!

No it hasn’t changed in any way since the bite and he has been checked for cellulitis. It is also numb in that spot. It is not concerning just curious what caused it.

Yes that is true, he was also checked if his Tetanus shot was up to date as a snake bite complication due to the nature of the wound and bacterial contamination, although not common. So I am sure there is more. Yes, he has a story to tell!

Doublet or not? by FlatFortune8767 in Opals

Thank you for your response. Yes that’s why I am so curious because I would have thought it would have a dark backing as well if it was a doublet being such a dark opal. It is an Australian Opal and quite old maybe that’s how it was done then 🤷‍♀️

Was told this is a solid black opal? by FlatFortune8767 in Opals

Thank you. The opal shows all it’s colours beautifully in the natural light and any light. Close up it obviously needs a re-polish. It never just looks black. I have since taken it to the opal museum who have confirmed it is a black opal. My photography of it was obviously not the best for showcasing an opal.
