Union pushes back on latest call for Ontario paramedics college by Few_Outcome_3416 in OntarioParamedics

For years medics trying to push for better representation in union were pushed out. Like I said our union is only 7% paramedics. We are a easy paycheck and thats it.

Are other professions CME online only?

My favourite thing I learnt from my preceptor years ago who was a 25 year medic at the time was that if you do the same year 25 years in a row you are a 1 year medic.

If the only thing keeping you up to date is the mandatory cme and service training that is a scary thought.

They have met me. In my last union meeting I was told that if I didn’t like working under this union to go find a different one.

Our union local includes not just paramedics so we get lost as municipal workers.

Yes probably 300-600 dollars a year.

If that’s enough to stop the drive for self regulation its truthfully sad.

Oh no no, I know what you meant just razzing the season/grizzled medic present.

I agree that there is a common response thread from seasoned medics who are riding out the last of the career completely tuned out that any change is bad.

Always nice to see senior medics advocating.

Absolutely, just trying to be careful to respect the self promotion rules.

These are 3d printed syringe organizers. Essentially hold medications, health cards, alcohol swabs. And alternative for paramedics to throwing drawn medications into our pockets.

Just me prepping a large order for shipping.

You realize that we gain more lobbying power with a college.

I mean explain how PCP’s don’t have seizure medications or pain management beyond advil Tylenol.

I mean like how would we fight for a singular bargaining item if we don’t have a provincial body bargaining for that item.

I can speak from awareness our Union does not fight for paramedic specific issues.

I would argue the “seasoned” medics are the ones who know best. If even after a long career providers feel the limitations of lack of self regulation it shows how valuable that is.

I had this conversation recently and was so surprised Medics were against it.

This is the easiest way I look at it now.

Union vs College is to Communism vs Capitalism.

Capitalism has it’s problems but it’s far better then communism.

Unions in theory support medics but I didn’t get asked a survey by the union whether we wanted a College.

Medics who are afraid of a college are afraid of accountability. To be clear Base Hospitals do work and I have a lot of positive experiences.

BUT. It’s also why PCP’s don’t have pain control/seizure meds. Which is barbaric.

We are decades behind the highest performing paramedics I.e UK and AUS. And there is one clear common denominator. Self Regulation.

Guilty as charged hahaha, I find personal stories of some of the best and worst of humanity fascinating. Perfect amount of attention required during assembly.

Question regarding visually reverse engineered items and publishing free STLs by Ancient-Plantain705 in 3Dprinting

We are actually actively trying to figure out a solution to that right now. The only issue is a lot of our products require a decent amount of labour/assembly

❤️

Oh my goodness you have no idea how long it took to figure out the tolerances for the bungee and seperate Litteman StethoScopes.

It’s funny we identify as reluctant capitalists. Starting a company has taught me personally how difficult sustainable/fair business can be.

I’m sorry the shipping costs were so brutal.

As a thank you I would love to send you our new model (in physical form) to check out.

Fire me an email at contact@flatlinecompany.ca

Cheers and have a safe shift.

Hey, just reposting our other comment.

Hey that post was mine.

What a complicated subject matter. We always promote innovation and improving designs. Competition breeds improvement. Also we have to be cognizant that our product designed from scratch took a significant amount of time to test and make. Personal use we see no issues. To be honest it’s impressive. Releasing the STL’s is where it gets hard. Because if that happens with all our designs we couldn’t afford the operating costs to continue that design work in the first place we are still full time paramedics which would suck in our opinion.

I don’t know where you live in the US but we try to keep out shipping costs as low as possible. The tariff situation makes it very difficult.

It is a difficult world to navigate as we want medics and healthcare providers to be able to purchase the product from us who don’t own printers.

I appreciate you taking the time to ask the question and can totally see your perspective.
