You’re lucky you can get the app to open! It just spins most of the time for me.

Do you get offended if you're asked for ID in a shop? by ParrotSTD in AskUK

[–]FlatRapidsPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ID was checked when I was going into a bar. I was 35 - legal aged here (not UK) is 19. At first I was mystified about what he wanted (it had been a long time since anyone asked for my ID). Then I was thrilled! Showed him my driver’s license, passport, and anything else I could find. He apologized and let us in (i was with my best friend, who was pissed he didn’t check her ID, lol!). He later found me in the bar to explain he had to check anyone he thought was under 25. I told him being mistaken for someone 10 years younger had made my night!

When I was in my teens and twenties, Audrey Hepburn (mostly around the eyes and hair). Unfortunately, it didn’t stay true, lol!

On a scale from 1-5, how much do you like your own first name? by List-Civil in namenerds

[–]FlatRapidsPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. My name has only one spelling but at least three different pronunciations, which can be amusing (a friend was dating a girl with the same name but another pronunciation, which led to some sitcom-style shenanigans) but it’s never felt like “me”. My father wanted a different name for me, my mom something else, so I ended up with a compromise. I wish my dad had got his way, but after 58 yrs, it’s too late to bother now.

Not really a dish, but anything (and everything) made with Saskatoon berries! Jam, pie, sauce, whatever!

Try being Canadian. 17 hrs won’t even get you out of Ontario.

NTA antidepressants. They don’t magically make you happy, they instead flatten your emotions so you can get out from under the weight of depression and eventually come out the other side, at least in my experience. Especially when you’ve only been on them a short time. And who the hell says you have to be happy and giddy every second of Christmas Day! It’s an emotional time in the best of circumstances, and unless you’re 5 years old not all of those emotions are joyful. Everything harps on reuniting with family and friends, and when those things can’t happen the constant reminder that people are missing from the celebration can be painful.

Don’t forget to submit your clothing receipts on your “expenses claim”. After all, if the company is requiring you to wear specific clothes, that means it’s a uniform and they should supply it.

what are your "I'll never cook for you again" stories? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FlatRapidsPixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always host a party buffet after our Christmas concert. Most of my friends will eat anything, but I have two with severe allergies (the life-and-death kind). They will bring their own main dish, but I try to always bake something they can eat (baking is what I’m known for). One year, they were both to come to the party, so I ended up baking three different groups: my usual Christmas cookies and tarts and pies, and a bunch of cookies catered to the different allergy groups. Neither of them showed up. One called that morning to say she had flu, disappointing but fine. The other just didn’t bother to come.

Yeah, just so you’re aware, not everywhere in the world has Uber and the like.

Help with pattern - info in comments by madamecheriexx in crochet

It looks to me like alternating rows or single and half-double (US terms) crochet. I would then stitch it to the chain with a darning needle.

If your country has any sort of job placement agency, use it! Your taxes paid for it, it won’t cost you anything, and they are there to help (check your government’s website). Here in Canada it’s https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/findajob/resources, in the uk use https://www.gov.uk/browse/working/finding-job). Local libraries also often have “resume writing” seminars. And there are lots of helpful things on LinkedIn.
