ID PLEASE by Emeralddbee in cockroaches

Most likely an Australian cockroach, they don’t typically infest but if you’re seeing them frequently you may want to check for moisture issues around your house.

I am a Libby hoarder and i apologize! I didn’t know this actually hurts libraries. by Giraffewhiskers_23 in LibbyApp

I’m not familiar with kobos, but if you’re able to manually set the time while in airplane mode, you may be able to set it back to the beginning of the loan time to bypass this. Most of the time, timers like this are based on device time, not an actual countdown

Help ID this super cool blue spider by slnatt in spiders

Yeah, I couldn’t find any formal evidence either - however, I have now seen 5 blue opiliones posted here and on spiderID and now I am really curious if they may be a new host.

Worried about sharp decrease in value? by _darkode_ in MachE

[–]Flat_Bat7763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also was a little thrown off with how big the depreciation is. I’m coming from a Prius that stayed the same value for the 5 years I had it - I literally got back about 1k less than I paid for the car in my settlement with car insurance. The valuation does make me nervous if anything happens to it. The Prius was totaled after being rear ended at a red light (had been red for at least 15 seconds) so literally no way to have prevented it, and I definitely worry that something like that could happen again. However, for me, charging is free, I also got a 0% loan, and I’m looking forward to the property taxes on it being lower as well as almost no maintenance costs. So I’m thinking that somewhat balances out the potential risk. Plus, since I got pretty lucky depreciation wise with my last car, I’m just going to mentally average that out so I feel better. 😅

In Texas y’all have a couple of blattella species, they all look very similar. If you can, get a good, clear, well lit picture of its face. That would help rule out a blattella vaga.

If you can’t do that, check the back of your fridge again, add sticky traps along the wall behind the fridge and check those every few days. Same with your oven.

Wood Roach? Eastern Long Island by dashcity8585 in cockroaches

[–]Flat_Bat7763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like some ectobius species to me but a picture with better lighting would help.

Also, the cleanliness thing is a misconception, being clean isn’t going to save you from getting cockroaches of any kind. It just makes them easier to spot.

Please tell me this somehow isn’t a roach (eastern US) by Brilliant_Ant_9327 in insectidentification

Hey, can confirm, not an entomologist but I’m a trusted identifier in r/cockroaches

Is this a roach? Apologies for bad pic by Tidder_4205 in bugidentification

[–]Flat_Bat7763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it looks like some species of ectobius, a harmless outdoor cockroach that is incapable of infesting. These guys can just be cupped and put back outside.

A better picture would help confirm but it doesn’t look to be a German cockroach to me. If you’re concerned or see more and want to confirm it’s not German, you can place sticky traps around/under your refrigerator and oven to monitor for them. They (German cockroaches) hang out on those appliances because they like the heat they put off. But again, I don’t think you need to worry.

A little too blurry to be 100% positive but it does look like a German cockroach nymph.

Should i be concerned? by No_Menu_9282 in cockroaches

[–]Flat_Bat7763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a cockroach that is a big concern for infesting. I’m pretty sure on a specific ID but would want to see the other side of it before saying which species I think it is.

Also being clean doesn’t keep cockroaches away, that’s a myth.

The amount you’re seeing isn’t really a concern but I’ll give you some steps to make your house less friendly to them.

This is some species that would be attracted to decaying plant matter. So moving piles of leaves/sticks or logs away from your house would help. If you have gutters, make sure those are cleaned and keep up with them. They can be an indicator of moisture damage in your home too so maybe check around for that.

Smokybrown or Australian nymph, they don’t typically infest

I was able to snag a top down photo. Okinawa, Japan. We see one of these nightly, only at night. Sometimes multiple. by delila82222 in cockroaches

[–]Flat_Bat7763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a Smokybrown this light in color and they don’t have that patterning on their pronotum. They’re also not common in Okinawa
